Just James. Patreon member. Hey Shan thanks for the story of your school days I loved it, my school days weren’t much better and I didn’t have a Prom either there wasn’t much need for it in an all boys school. Anyways back to Who bidnizz, and yes we had a black President before the Americans over here in England 2.0 The Cyberman haven’t been seen since the 7th Doctor story in 1989 called Silver Nemesis, with slight differences in appearance because they were founded in an alternate universe. It also features the first televised appearance of a parallel earth and this was February 2007 wayyyy before the MCU and supernatural started doing multiverse storytelling. Head writer and show runner RTD knew that the Cybermen were already an “established success” so why have another cyborg race encounter the Doctor and give them a new backstory when you can just have there creation in a parallel universe, RTD felt that original fears of organ replacement for 1960’s audiences were not relevant in the 20th century, instead he wanted to focus on the upgrade of a human into a Cyberman granting people immortality but at the cost of there emotions. This is the first episode of Nu-Who to be directed by Graeme Harper, the only director of the classic series to direct for the revival. According to Russell T Davies, the fact that Jackie has her 40th birthday in this episode was a deliberate, if obscure, reference to the fact that the Cybermen appeared in the 40th anniversary. You probably knew this already but Roger Lloyd-Pack and David Tennant previously worked together in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, playing father and son, Barty Crouch Sr. and Barty Crouch Jr. respectively. I know him as Trigger from the British comedy TV show Only Fools & Horses. Roger Lloyd-Pack died of cancer on January 16th 2014. This first part story is excellent character development for Mickey smith, feeling insecure about his place in the world being a spare part in the Tardis (because you know the core story is always about Rose and the Doctor) having Mickey loose his grandmother and having no one in his life for guidance and direction speaks volumes about the kind of man he grew up to be. To the makers of Agatha this is how you do character development in your TV show, seriously what’s the demographic for that shit? Middle aged wine drinking women who aren’t interested in superheroes wow niche audience okay I’ve gone off topic, until next time. Toodle pip.

Shan: I'm never, never watching Doctor Who. (Later) Shan: Fine, but just the first season. (Half-way through the second season) Shan: I casually quoted a Dalek in public... But I'm not a Whovian! The Rest of Us: (Laughs in Whovian) Sure, Shan. Jelly Baby?

It's like watching that meme in real time, of the guy saying, "All right, let's see what this Doctor Who hullabaloo is all about" And then a month from now you'll be wearing [REDACTED] and a [REDACTED], holding a sonic screw driver being like, "...Fuck..."

Just the unneccessary reminder: if some monster looks extra cheesy/weird, remember that most of them were invented by people in the 60s for the first few doctors. Nowadays monster design would be completely different.

At one point, one of Ricky's hacker friends says, "That was just a dummy corporation. I think we know it really belongs to..." I wanted to respond, "Yeah, the Rossum Corporation!" 🤣

I actually do think the concept of the Cybermen may be the most terrifying of the Doctor Who antagonists; for me at least. I find the idea of having your brain surgically removed from your body and implanted in a a cybernetic body deeply unsettling. Sure, it's not technically possible... 𝘺𝘦𝘵. Like, out of all Doctor Who fantasy elements - Slitheen squeezing into smaller bodies, the Doctor Regenerating or just traveling through time - putting a human brain in a robot body is probably the most plausible possibility. It may be years down the road, maybe not even in our lifetime, but it's probably only a matter of time. I think about just in my own lifetime the strides they've made understanding the brain, making it possible for the brain to communicate with computers. Like, they've got cybernetic prosthetics now that respond to commands directly from the brain. That was sci-fi stuff when I was a kid. And the cybernetics are so sleek now; I remember seeing some of that stuff come out as a kid that was so bulky and clunky and the stuff now practically looks and operates the like the real thing. Which, don't get me wrong, that's great to have those kinds of advancements for people who need it; it's truly a marvel of human innovation. But the Cyberman or the Borg... Love them as fictional villain, but I hate that that shit is really not outside the realm of possibility.

The parallel Earth stuff would also be a little off putting for me. I love a good parallel universe story in fiction; and always have going way, way back (I think I may have been introduced to the concept by the series Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, something like, 30 years ago; and was a big fan of the series Sliders). The concept arguably gets overused today, but back when it was just a sparingly used plot device, it was fun to see different versions of established characters and what might have been. Applied to the real world though... hard pass. One me is more than enough (maybe too much). But an infinite number of alternate me's, some of them living better lives - or worse, all the different iterations of myself living in all of the darkest timelines, making the worst possible decisions. And then, is that conceivably our fate? It's trippy to think about, but if the multiverse did exist; when we die, would we just get reborn as ourselves in another universe and endlessly live the different permutations of our life, the good and the bad? Because that sounds horrible. Give me The Good Place. Thankfully parallel universes are much less plausible than the Cybermen...

If the Cybermen told me to "upgrade" I'd say "fuck no", cause even if I'd knew they were going to kill me for saying no at least I'd die being me. Just a random thought I'd wish they had an alternate version of Rose played by Billie, but she's more of a Regina George from Mean Girls that would of been funny. Missed opportunity there.

That was maybe a little bit her performance as Cassandra, when she took over her body.

Yes, Alternate Universe Britain beat the US to having a black President by at least 3 years. The episode was released in 2006 and they said it was first of Feb "this year" and we don't know how long he has been President already here. Where as in our universe the first black President took office in 2009. But its also possible in this universe a black President was elected in the US a decade earlier, doubtful, but possible.
