I don't see anyone else answering the question about the spin-offs, so here we go. There are a total of 3 official spin-offs of the show, and one unofficial spin off, just counting NuWho. There was at least one unofficial spin off of the classic one as well. (writers for the classic show often got ownership of any new elements they introduced to the show, so they were and are free to spin those off into their own series so long as they use nothing owned by BBC or anyone else.) The first two official spin-offs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures both debuted around the same time, I believe, so they both take place roughly around the 3rd season. The 3rd official spin-off, Class, takes place at some point during the 12th doctor era. I'm not sure exactly where in there it fits.
