I actually like Shaw as a villain, he's my favorite villain in the series. I think he started losing his mind after finding out Sarah killed his wife. He both wanted to make her suffer but also became obsessed with her, kind of seeing her as a replacement for his wife, while also wanting to kill her. I feel like Chuck getting in the way of that and shooting him made his obsession worse. Then there was the intersect, which I think this show has shown doesn't usually work well for people that aren't Chuck, just made it all so much worse. As well as all the time in jail thinking about it. I do see what your saying though, they could have made him a much more nuanced villain, which I think would have been great, probably better. But I don't know if the audience would have accepted that, they hated him pretty heavily when he was introduced, because he was getting in the way of Sarah and Chuck and that was before he became a villain. I think the audience now might have been more accepting and maybe that story would have happened. With the audience now there would also probably be no Jeff and Lester or they would be very different characters. I had pretty much the same reaction to that ending as you did, baby...what?
