The next build is FINALLY here! This one took a very long time to come together because we had to completely overhaul the movement system. It's not really done, but after all the hassles and challenges we've been hitting I'm looking towards simplifying the movement and gameplay a lot. I don't want to, not really, but being new to game development means it's easy to misjudge the scope of something that seems relatively simple. It's not.
More than a step forward or back, in play this will probably feel like a step sideways. In terms of development, the code isn't quite as shaky now so it's a more solid foundation for continued development. We are going to keep working on improvement the gameplay feel and controls just enough to make it viable, dropping some of the more complex stuff that gave more variation in attacks and things. All that has to get shelved until we start hitting some monthly budget targets. It's coming down to needing more help on the code, through paid coders, or simplifying the game a bit. Right now, that's not even really a choice.
Without Pastelstoic and JibesVibes this wouldn't have been possible at all, and I owe them my undying gratitude.
Biggest changes:
- Completely new movement system
- Plant enemy added
- Cave plant enemy added but not interactable yet
- CUSTOM audio recording for Ayla
Known bugs:
- There's a moonwalk issue that can happen if too many buttons are pressed at once
- Falling damage is currently disabled
- Start screen and options have been temporarily disabled as well
- Some areas of the cave are still unfinished, so you can get stuck in spots
