EDIT: This post and attached audio recording of the ridiculously funny middle part of Amphitryo Act 1 is now open in the public! 😃 I think this scene, in which the servant Sosia returns to the mansion to find *himself* guarding the door, is absolutely hilarious. The god Mercury is posing as a perfect copy of Sosia to help his father Jupiter sleep with Amphitryo's wife inside the mansion and thus is guarding the door to prevent the real Sosia and anyone else from entering. Mercury has a great deal of fun at Sosia's expense — Mercury is so good at confusing the foolish Sosia that even Sosia himself believes that Mercury is the *real* Sosia. 😂 My favorite exchange is "Verberō!" "Mentīre nunc!" hahahahaha.

If you like the recording please share this post with your friends! 😊 and also consider becoming a Tribūnī Tier patron! Tribūnī Tier patrons get access every Friday new editions to to my «pinguī Minervā» series of recordings in Latin. Half of the Amphitryo is already available!  The rest will be coming out every Friday, followed by more awesome works of literature.  This post is the free sample to give you an idea of the dozens of hours of Latin audio you'll be able to listen to.  Thanks again for listening and for your support! 🤠🦂

Original post:

Salvī sītis, Tribūnī! 🤠 Hail to you, military tribunes! As patrons pledging $2 or more each month, you now have access to a new weekly series I have designed with you specifically in mind, to be released every Friday and called «Recitātiōnēs Pinguī Minervā». The phrase "pinguī Minervā" is a Latin idiom meaning literally "by means of a fat Minerva," the goddess of reason and inspiration, and means something like "in a less than perfect manner." This weekly series will feature recordings I have prepared for you that make great listening material while driving, doing chores, or while taking a walk.

While all my Latin recordings feature the best pronunciation and performance I can muster in the moment, in the interest of providing you as much material as possible, I will be editing the recordings of «Recitātiōnēs Pinguī Minervā» very little or none at all. Thus you will be hearing these recordings as if I were reading them just for you, as I do with my students in lessons, and you will be able to discern my spontaneous reactions and imperfections in the audio — hence "pinguī Minervā." ☺️

The first text we will treat in the «Recitātiōnēs Pinguī Minervā» series is the AMPHITRYO by Plautus, an exceedingly hilarious comedy written in the 2nd century BC.  The conversational, fluid, natural use of language is on full display here. I am reading from the Ørberg LLPSI edition, attached as a PDF below.

Thank you very much for your support! If you like this material, tell your friends to become one of the Tribūnī patrons here on my Patreon page! 😃🦂
