Try utilizing YouTube as a springboard to activities. It can be a good learning tool and I think it benefits kids to learn how to interact with tech in a positive way. My kid has used YouTube to learn special effects make up, crafting projects, art projects, how to draw better, how to be a better photographer, cooking skills, etc. As a teenager, he makes us fresh pasta, has taken ownership of the kitchen, and has a wide musical taste that includes a love of 40s big band music. YouTube can be used positively but you have to get engaged in what content the kid is consuming, direct thier focus, and be willing to invest time/money into craft supplies/field trips. For me, it's been a great tool.
