Coloured sketch of Varan; one of the most feared of the ancient Titans to the Kilaak Empire, Varan was one of three pseudo-saurian kaiju designated by them as "disaster gods", his vast wings were a shadow of death capable of bringing about a cataclysmic gale greater than any storm. Few kaiju can compare to Varan in terms of all-terrain mobility; a true triphibian, he is swift and agile on land, in the air, and underwater, as well as a surprisingly adept digger.
His hide and wings are covered in metal-infused scales and blade-like spines, rendering them highly resistant to external injuries despite his lithe frame, and his internal body is riddled with a complex system of air sacs which keep him light-weight and allow him to vent pressurized air from spiracles or through his mouth strong enough to pulverize bedrock. These generate lift as Varan launches himself into the sky, allowing him to soar for untold thousands of kilometres without touching the ground, or propel him at great speeds beneath the waves.
By manipulating the winds he produces with his wings and tail, he can hurl cyclone-force squalls at his foes, whip up camouflaging dust devils, or even vibrate the air at frequencies that can liquify flesh of weaker foes and cause disorientation and nausea in larger kaiju. It has been suggested by East Asian legends that he can even produce a typhoon capable of swallowing up an entire country, so that he may feed upon the devastation in its wake.
