Good job for highlighting this. The history of neglecting the defence forces goes back even further, in the 80s soldiers' wives actually started campaigning about how bad the conditions were in order to get around legal restrictions on their husbands speaking out. At least back than the whole fucking country was poor so we had an excuse, now it's ridiculous. I have friends in the army and while most would say it's grand for a single person in their 20s it's in no way seen as a career, unless you go rangers. It's a fucking disgrace that we are failing to back up our neutrality like this, how can we be neutral when we're begging lifts off other countries?

Really interesting listen. Hadn't given much thought to ROI's military capability. Even given its neutrality, it sounds like an absolutely embarrassing situation and a huge dereliction of duty towards the men and women of the Defence Forces.
