EDIT: I'm an idiot, I had it set to view only sorry. Should be fixed now.

Hi everyone,

As I’ve mentioned briefly before, myself and Ben Ditto (http://www.ditto-london.com/) are putting together a Popular Front book. The book will be about low-tech ingenuity within war. So for example how PKK guerrillas use cheap metal teapots as a container for small bombs, how ISIS used commercial Dji drones to drop mortars, or how Kachin rebels make their own firearms from sheet metal, etc.

Ideally we need the images to be published by militants or armies themselves. It can even be stills from propaganda videos or stuff uploaded to Telegram channels.

The book will feature a number of articles but will be mostly image based. Now, as is the Popular Front way, I wanted to see if anyone from the community here wants to help out with the images? We will be using a number of images throughout the book—almost like a collage I guess.  If you want to help, here’s what I need…

Go to this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Cdi7vL8mecg2-Oln7fn4kQaJuX_E1qEw

Upload any images from conflict / war zones that demonstrate the use of basic technology within war. Rename the image with a brief caption (you’ll see I’ve added some already as an example) saying what it is, where it’s from, and if you want to be credited in the book include your name.

It’s that simple. Upload as many as you like. The more the merrier. Doesn't matter if it's shitty picture quality either.  Everyone will get a discount code when the book is done.

Thanks all!

- Jake

Unable to contribute images, but it sounds like a great project so would be happy to order a book in advance/drop some money into a Kickstarter-style campaign if that’d help

I figure this is photographs-only (fair) but I'd gladly draw something if it can work anyhow. Best of luck.

Just tried to upload a pic but the folder is view only, we can't upload stuff.

Anonymous

Can't upload but I have a bunch of homemade firearm-related images from the wars if you are intested

Can't wait for your book to come out!

Is it legal to just take random pics off the internet from random videos etc and just put them in a book? I love the idea and I’d be more than happy to contribute but won’t there be copyright restrictions when it comes to publishing? Just don’t wanna see you guys get into any legal shit.

popularfront

Yeah. If it’s from propaganda and / or the filming of militant groups. It is in the public’s interest to know about this so legally it’s fine so long as you’re not using like an actual photographers work without permission etc. But that’s not what we’re saying or looking for.

It's my time to shine!

I don't know if you already know @CalibreObscura on Twitter, but he has a lot of content that might be just what you are looking for. Also if you are going to talk about SVBIEDs at all, it will be worth looking into @HKaaman 's extensive work on the subject if you haven't already. Best of luck!

Pear Is A Patsy

Can’t wait to buy the book, Jake. Love everything you guys do at PF

I don´t know why but this whole project takes me back to ep 04. The sort of extreme knowledge that guy had on SVBIEDs reminds me somehow of all this. The most obscure and chaotic pics. Like the Trolley DShk and GRAD dumpster truck..

Just saw episode 4 and an article on your site with Caibre, should have known you would know those guys already!
