The true "Last Date" with my Uncle Richard. Words cannot express the amount of grief I feel over not getting an opportunity to make music with him while he was still here. The last words I ever heard him say in person were, "Remember your Uncle Richard Loves You. Never Forget." He whispered it in my ear upon our departure. He gave me a firm extra lengthy hug and we went on our way. I must have been around 10 at the time. He didn't talk much, but when he did... It mattered. I sang one song with him that day on piano, I cannot remember the song. Life took us all in different directions and at the time of his departure from this world we were moving to vacant land to build a home and dream for ourselves. We were land bound and broke. I'm not familiar with gospel nor am I a part of any specific religion, but I know what it is to be spiritual. I had the most fun attending my Uncle's Church for his Baptism. The Congregation showed up in their pajamas, sang joyous hymnals and I got an inside look into something that was really important to him. I will do my best to sing these songs the way they were intended to be with Joy, Reverence and Love.
