Not sure if chat went over it after the ep, or if you figured it out by the end, if you did disregard this. Essentially Kiritsugu had Maya cut off Sola's arm so she could not use the command seals to call for Lancer to help her. Kayneth went to the church to get a reward for the death of Caster as Lancer had to sacrifice one of his Noble Phantasms to do it, then he killed Father Kotomine (Kirei’s dad) so nobody else could get extra command seals. Then while Saber and Lancer had their honorable duel Kiritsugu gave Kayneth a Geas scroll, which is an unbreakable contract. The contract stated that if Kayneth ordered Lancer to kill himself with the command seal then Kiritsugu himself would never be able to do harm to Kayneth or Sola. Contract was completed so Maya had to be the one to kill them. He wanted them both Master and Servant dead so neither could make another contract again.
