Some info without spoiling much about the ending. This Kirei hasn't realize he found joy in killing people 'just yet' while in HF you watched (10 years after Zero) Kirei already knew that he himself is a psychopath. As you have watched HF, It's safe to remind you that Angra Mainyu (Avenger) was summoned and corrupted the grail since the 3rd HGW. His goals are to get revived and curse all mankind. Therefore, in Zero (4th HGW), he was responsible for summoning illegal (evil-nature) servant such as Caster. Also, he (corruptly) chooses Kirei to be a master again as their goals are aligned (find joy in killing people). Kirei will surely win the grail and revive him 100%. (In Hf, the dying Kirei looks forward to witness the birth of Angra Mainyu and fights with Shirou to protect him) Gil and Angry Mango know Kirei is a psychopath. Kirei himself doesn't realize who he really is just yet.
