I AM THE BONE OF MY SWORD x2???

All of this is from the Fate route which UBW treats as known knowledge. So that Golden thing was Avalon, the Scabbard/Sheath of Excalibur, it has the ability to heal anyone who holds it when they are near Saber. Kiritsugu fused it with Shirou to save him in the fire. Its also the reason Shirou summoned Saber as a servant. That's why Shirou has been able to heal through the series.

This is new information for me which I very much needed. It seems like Archer knew what it was when he said "her scabbard". What experience did he have with it in his life

The Scabbard, AKA Avalon, is from Fate route, one of Saber's lost noble phantasms which grants the user eternal youth and healing power as a passive skill. In King Arthur's lore, Merlin once asked Arthur which was more important, the sword or the sheath. Arthur replied with 'the sword, since it cuts through steel'. Merlin responded 'Although the sword is very important, the sheath is ten times more. You are protected and healed by it as long as you possess it'. However, Arthur still accidentally lost the sheath, which symbolically marked the beginning of the downfall of Britain. After Shirou summoned Saber, the mana provided by Saber started Avalon running, healing Shirou's wound. After Caster took Saber, the link was cut off and we see Shirou unable to regen in all season 2. About the point that Shirou would continue Archer's path and all that timeline stuff, as the comments say Archer is indeed from a different timeline, similar to Fate route. Therefore, Shirou is not guaranteed to walk down exactly the same path as if 'it is the future'. With that being said, one of the points of UBW is that, the greatness of idealism shines when even one learns the outcome, one still presses on believing that one's ideal is correct. It is 'correct' and 'natural' for people to give up knowing the outcome is bad, but Shirou still moves in the same direction because he thinks nevertheless, this path is worth fighting for, even if the end is bad. Shirou is not here to give an ultimate solution to problems, but to show the determination to find that solution despite acknowledging he may fail. This is the same ideal Saber lived with (more to that in Fate route), so Avalon recognized such determination as it once did with Saber, thus suddenly starting working once again even when there's no master/servant connection.

Woah reading this just made me realise that Saber was indeed not even his servant at that time. That just completely went out of my mind when I saw that scabbard activate cuz I'm so used to seeing Saber and Shirou as master and servant. Thanks for all this info
