Just another laid back video to make things easier while I've been in Glasgow.  I was hoping to make a video or two here, but time has shot by and I'm packing stuff up to send it to the proper filming zone instead.

Inside a simple mechanical time switch

Just a low-tech laid back video showing the inside of a simple mechanical time switch. Just a cost optimised motor with resistor chosen to suit the local supply voltage, a standard microswitch, and a slightly mistreated LED. This video is basically me having a shameless skive from real work. If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:- https://www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's algorithm quirks, allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty. #ElectronicsCreators

I think the 6 minute accuracy is the timing accuracy of it switching on or off at each interval. For example, if I set a mechanical timer to go on 1pm, off 2pm, on 3pm and off 4pm, it may switch on 1:03pm, off 1:59pm, on 3:05 pm and off 4:00pm even though the clock mechanism holds accurate timing for months until a power outage. There is a 7 day mechanical version also, but has its segments in 2 hour steps.

Thanks Big Clive. Not much has changed much then overall. Same basic principal. I have a timer switch with little leavers similar to yours except they can be set 20 minutes apart. It's older and I'd say it's within a minute or so in accuracy. I have it running a humidifier for 20 minutes per hour from 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM. I hear it click on at x:46 and it's off at x:05 give or take a minute. Most of the other timers like this that I have are in half hour intervals.

I wondered the same thing but the number of little plastic lever switches around the timer face would need to be about 240 for eack one to represent 6 minutes of travel, and it looks like a bit fewer than that. I think we're talking about the same thing anyway.
