I bought this during the pandemic, but didn't make a video about it because I felt that I had made too many ozone videos at that time.

It's an odd device that detects movement and then when the movement has finished it emits a small amount of ozone and other active air molecules into the surrounding air.

Inside a cat detecting poop neutralizer - with schematic

This product has a very Japanese feel to it. It's exactly the sort of random gadget they love. The main functionality is to detect movement in its vicinity, and then when the movement has stopped it pouts out a small amount of ozone enriched air to combat odours. Aside from its advertised use for a cat litter tray, it would also have uses in other areas like a fridge or cupboard where the opening of the door and other activity would trigger a burst of air sterilisation. The ozone is created by the action of an electrical corona discharge, which splits air molecules apart into their separate atoms temporarily, allowing them to recombine in active forms like ozone (three atom oxygen) which is unstable and donates its third oxygen atom to anything in the vicinity, oxidising it in the process. That could be an odour molecule, fungal spore, virus or bacteria. The oxidation has the effect of disrupting things at a molecular level, reducing odours and damaging spores, viruses and bacteria. It's an odd, but neat unit. For the technically inclined, it's useful to clean the little ozone generator from time to time or best performance. I tested the unit for a while, so the pattern on the ozone ring was caused by the strong oxidising effect concentrated in that area. If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:- https://www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's algorithm quirks, allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty. #ElectronicsCreators

I was actually looking for this exact thing for ages (since pandemic at least) because the cat’s poop began to smell really bad and this would have been ideal! As you say ozone generators aren’t poisonous … but for a creature as small as a cat - I think it’s justified in being cautious! (Turned out it was probably a warning that he had cancer and he’s since died … tho in fairness we took him to the vet lots of times and she failed to identify if (not her fault - diagnostic tests in veterinary medicine aren’t as advanced as in human medicine)). (If you can remember what your search terms/ seller’s name was, that’d be great).

I recently bought an ozone generator for use near my pussy cats' poo palace. But the unit looks like... a different kind of pussy. It has a dual colour temperature LED on it as well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/165466314933

Quite a useful item for an ozone generator... having two cats, I might look for one on all the usual chinesium sites.

In regard to the 'nasal neutralising' concept I was told that the electrostatic charge of ozone caused microscopic dirt, pollen and dust particles to clump together, presumably being the carriers of smell, thereby causing them to fall. If true there should be a small patch of dust under the ozone area, although I imagine this would require several months of activity in a relatively draught free room.

Maybe the foam tube section is shielding input to the motion sensor?

My guess on the Foam topic would be a spacer between the PCB (mounted on the backplate) and the PIR Dome (pressing aguthe frontpanel) to block any reflections in between the gap. I’m not sure if its necessary but it could be what the manufacturer had in mind as it also acts as a spring to ‘push’ the Dome flush
