Yet another video.  Perhaps of more interest to those in the UK where the Poundland chain is based.  This is a staggeringly good power supply for just a pound.  There must be a catch.

2017 Poundland USB charger analysis.

Poundlands newest USB charger. And it turns out to be pretty good. Not sure how long it will last if run at full current continuously, but the design is very good with large clearances, slots and separation.

Clive - have you ever done a review of a genuine Apple charger?

bigclive

I've not. Mainly because the Apple charger I have here is the backup one for the iPad I record with. But I should really buy one just to shred.

Tripodski

It would be interesting to see whether they are worth £18 more than the Poundland ones (considering that Poundland are making a profit)!

I would be really interested in those as well. Especially the ones used in the EU (or should I say other parts of the EU for now). They are very small and still capable of delivering one Ampere.

Al Hunt

I can't find it now, but I've seen a tear-down. A real Apple charger cube is an engineering masterpiece. Particularly after the "green dot" showed up.

Clive, please pardon the noob question, do views and "likes" here on patreon get carried through to youtube?

Al Hunt

Yes, if you're giving a YouTube thumbs-up on the actual video. Clicking the Patreon "heart" does not carry through.

Seems like a good candidate for the usb "muscle stimulation" device you've mentioned.

I'd be happy to mail in a genuine Apple charger (or even a genuine Macbook charger) for a detailed teardown. Though by the sound of it, Clive has quite the backlog of teardown offers right now...

Ever wonder if Poundland's purchasing team watch your teardowns/reviews, and send the feedback onto the Chinese manufacturers that design and produce these things? It can't be coincidence that they're suddenly getting that good.

Al Hunt

I imagine the Chinese manufacturers provide whatever is asked of them. "Yes, we can do it properly, but that'll be $0.02 extra per unit." Ah, well fuck the consumer then, make us the lethal one.
