Inside Dolce Gusto drink pods

A look inside some of the drink pods of the Dolce Gusto drink making system. The reason the Gusto system has such a big pod is to accommodate the more complex drinks like white coffee or drinking chocolate. For a plain coffee pod the contents are approximately 5g of ground coffee and lots of empty space. The creamer based drinks have about 20g of powder in them, and the hot chocolate version uses two pods with drinking chocolate in one and creamer in the other to fit all the sugar and creaminess in. While this pod system may seem wasteful, I can understand why people use them. It's an affordable home version of the coffee shop barista experience. My preference is for the Nespresso system, since it is just for simple ground coffee pods, and as such they are much smaller and more affordable. Plus there's a wide range of refillable pod options for custom coffee choices. (A 250g pack of ground coffee will refill 50 pods.) If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee (pods), cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:- http://www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's algorithm quirks, allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty. #ElectronicsCreators

Blender Latte for two Add to the blender 3 spoons of decent instant coffee 1 of sugar 2 mugs 3/4 fill one MILK the other water 3 min (ish) in the microwave Dump the mugs in and blend The froth created will fill the mug to the top. SHMBO likes it done that way I can add a couple of coffee beans into the Vitamix blender while it is dry and create powder, this will intensify the taste of the drink https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumpole_of_the_Bailey She Who Must Be Obeyed -- also Brandy on the side does help.

And now for something completely different: the larch!

Now you've got all those coffees in that bowl, you just need to add a bit of a whoofle to get superb Tiramisu.

Mmmm Cost per pod? France I get 1000g real coffee for 3,60€ or 0,02€ a serving. 16 Dolce capsules is 4€ or 0,25€. What a markup!

How bored 🥱 were you when you got your coffee ☕️ pods and started ripping them to shreds and discovering how much technology was actually crammed inside?????

We use a couple reusable cartridges in our Keurig - dismantle, clean, refill with your own coffee (whole beans ground at Costco).

these produce so much unnecessary waste, and are so expensive. I opted for a bean-to-cup machine - the lowest cost delonghi one that is often heavily discounted - and that serves me just fine. i will concede that the "fancy" drinks from these pod systems can feel like a treat from time to time, though.

I've spent a lot of time in hotels for work and every one of them had a machine and those cups. Imaging paying minibar prices on something that is already overpriced. Yikes.

2 things: One, I've never used this type of cup, just the Keurig's style. Back in the 2000's when I worked with Shell IT, we had a Flavia machine that predated the K-Cups. OMFG that made great coffee and other drinks. Second: Clive, I usually watch your videos straight from Patreon and never click over to youtube. Is it more beneficial that your Patreans watch the video on YouTube so they can click on the "Like" button for better stats?

bigclive

When the videos are initially released on Patreon they are unlisted on YouTube, so it's fine to view them directly on Patreon.

bigclive

If you could predict the type of machine you could have a coffee pod travel pack.

Chris Muncy

Thanks CLive. Just want to make sure you are getting all of the good stats that you can.

Anything that makes instant coffee look complicated and expensive isn't going to hack it. We have a Gaggia classic espresso machine. While watching this my wife brought me an espresso. mmmmmm. Happy bunny.
