I'll probably be putting this video up later tonight, but here's a sneak preview of the new USB powered LED toadstool light that one of you will be getting. It's a LONG video that took several attempts to upload, and YouTube currently seems to be presenting it in a rather low resolution (360!). Hopefully it's just processing the other versions in higher resolutions or I may have to find another way to upload it again.

Extra weird USB powered (less deadly) LED toadstool light build.

I had to make about 5 attempts to upload this video before doing it in little chunks and putting them all back together again on YouTube. But here it is. Possibly the longest video I've successfully uploaded for a fun but time consuming project to make a completely customisable LED light that is somewhat safer than the deadly mains version.

Strangely enough he tends to decline my offer of alcoholic potions.

Yeah, it seemed to start at 360p then filled in all the lower resolutions first before working up to the higher ones.

In general here in the US the measures for electronics are in metric units, translated from the imperial. There are some exceptions 0.1" will often be written as both 2.54mm and 0.1" — probably for old farts (like I border on being). The big exception is SMD sizes. They are primary described in imperial units — ie 0805 vs 2012

Clive, when I was in Shenzhen I saw these in person and have been trying to find a listing since to send to you, because I was silly enough not to take a photo while I was in SEG mall. It is a demo box for testing lamps. They seem to come in many variations but here is something to get you started, they're fairly expensive but I hope you find them interesting. http://s.aliexpress.com/vU7jIn6b (I post this here because I'm not sure how else to contact you).

Eli, that thing looks freaking amazing! Thanks for sharing it.

I've seen those testers used in eBay listing to demonstrate lamps. It does look quite neat.
