Here's next week's video early for Patrons, this one goes out publicly on June 13th.

The Dock Ock Tentacle video did well on YouTube, so I thought I'd try another Sci-Fi build. Also a quadruped!

Shall I make a much bigger one?

Walking AT-AT - PREVIEW VERSION

Everybody wanted an AT-AT from The Star Wars. Wow – it was a really exciting toy, or was it? Yeah it’s legs move and that, and the 80s ones had guns that moved, and lit up! You put your hand in to operate its head, and you can move the legs – with your hands! But wouldn’t it be better if it walked along? Brilliant!

Noah Orr

Bigger! 1:1 scale!

the AC

Surprising choice for mechanism. Interesting idea flexing each segment instead of using an elbow with rigid limbs. Not entirely 1-to-1 with the AT-AT since they also have shoulders that actually lift the legs for each step. Cool project though. Out here making your own toys instead of buying into the marketing.

XRobots

It's three motor per leg unless the feet are floppy - but since the body stays parallel with the ground this way works quite well. The shoulders could be added, but it needs another motor.

the AC

I figured this may have been the choice for efficiency. Really neat process watching it all come together.

Absolutely Brilliant James! You continue to be my favorite creator!

Steve Coleman-Williams

Obviously some differences to the actual look and feel of at-at, i assume making sure no falling foul of the infamous disney copyright lawyers looks awesome though!would be great to see the head moving too (and the weapons)

Neil Devonshire

Nice, yeah, bigger would be great too, very nice project. It'll be nice to see how you design for the exponential growth of engineering problems as the size increases.

Neil Devonshire

Very true. Combined joints on the knees too possibly, easier kinematics rather than larger errors

Steve Martin

If you go bigger it will have to be a co-lab with our favourite tunnel builder!

Andy Ihnatko

Why not make one large enough to be piloted by Barbie and Ken? Go for two big franchise demographics at once!

AW

One of my favorite toys, I really enjoyed this one (but I love them all). This classic stop motion AT-AT video came to mind... https://youtu.be/-CVYOCMpJRY

Rebel Base Build

Hey James. I’m a UK base Youtuber 3D modeller new to your Patreon, love this build, I’d love to chat about a potential collaboration idea I have!
