This last year was an eventful one.

  • We finished the GarlicOS 2.0 Alpha rewrite, got the porter templates out, and got it ported to the first 4 devices.
  • We also built an easy-to-use multi-seating suite for Moonlight streaming, giving any and all handheld owners, who happen to also own a regular PC, an easy way to turn their device into a Windows gaming handheld of sorts without having to occupy their physical PC in the process.

Both of these projects were time-consuming and difficult in their own rights and, in big parts, only made possible by the support all of you have shown me over the year.

I initially had planned to end the year in a big bang of sorts, hosting a GarlicOS 2.0 porting workshop in collaboration with Retro Handhelds and working out hardware acceleration for it.

However, my recent contraction of pneumonia has rendered me down for the count for the most part. As such, I have little choice but to postpone those two until I've recovered.

With that, all there's left to say is that I wish all of you Happy Holidays!

Spend time with family & friends and focus on what is truly important!

I will see you all in 2024!

Happy Holidays! Hope you recover soon! And here’s hoping I’ll be able to have Garlic OS on my RG Nano/Funkey S in the future! ✨

Is garlic os available for rg552, anyone know

Katie McCormick

Can we have an update on where things are at for garlic OS on the rg35xx plus?

Brandon Tweed

Yes - I would love an update. With the current garlic OS on the RG35XX Plus there is an directional pad input issue (tested on multiple devices) that makes the current build unusable for platforming and action games.

Florent Morfaux

Bought the RG35XX 2024 without realizing it would not be compatible with GarlicOS 1. I tried Garlic 2.0.1 right away but it didn't do it for me. So for now I'm stuck with the stock OS.. Garlic 1 is so awesome.. I hope version 2 can reach a similar level soon!

Looks like it - unsubbing. Waited 5 months for nothing.

It's been a while since the last public GarlicOS movement, true, but that doesn't mean its dead. I work on multiple projects at the same time, and at times I'm just stretched too thin to move things in a timely fashion. That's the downside of being a one-man-army, there's no-one to delegate work to and with only 24 hours in a day there's a limit to how much one can get done. If you take a look at Duo's GitHub repositories you'll find that a lot of work has been put into that one to get it into a state where it can be parked for an extended period of time in favor of other projects like GarlicOS, and I'm happy to say that it has finally reached said point. Either way, I can understand your frustration and just wanted to say thank you for the support you have given. You'll be seeing a bunch of GarlicOS related updates in the near future and can keep track of it both on here and its GitHub organization page.
