The RG552 has now made the jump to Pie, along with some much requested updates and bugfixes like software-based navigation buttons, an updated GPU driver and a fix for USB audio!

How to install: Unpack the attached files using 7zip and follow the included instructions found inside README.txt.

Things to note when updating from a previous build: You will encounter issues if you don't factory reset as part of this update! Please backup your data coming from 8.1 (or below) before you start and make sure you factory reset your unit after the installation has finished!

For those needing the Google Play Store: Reboot into TWRP and install the latest OpenGapps ARM64 9.0 Pico bundle! (I suggest you finish the first-time setup with WiFi disabled... things move so much faster if you do!)

For those needing root: Magisk is included out of box and only needs to be activated on first boot. A WiFi connection is required for the initial Magisk activation.

Changelog

 • Initial Android 9.0 build
 • Software navigation buttons have been added
 • GPU driver has been updated
 • USB audio has been fixed
 • Changed fingerprint from Nexus 5X to Galaxy S21

So, if I bump from 8.1 to 9, I have to redo everything, right? Emulators. retroarch, arc browser, android games, the whole shebang?

blackseraph

Your internal storage doesn't get deleted even if you wipe data, which means your files remain in place. Only the installed apps will disappear. But even that can be prevented by making a Migrate backup first (which I suggest to everyone that already has their device configured on 8.1).

Michael Snipes

where do i migrate apps to, internal or sd card, cause sd card is requiring some app to download

Flashed with TWRP the first time without success, even after 10 minutes just seeing the Android animated logo. Now I'm trying the Maskrom method. Fingers crossed.

finally getting it installed, super excited

Hi! When I install apps and launch them, the screen changes to portrait and there is no way to landscape. I commented that it happened in 8.1 and in this version (9) it also happens. Can someone try it please? For example installing Patreon. Another thing that happens is when I go to put a wallpaper through the gallery, it also changes the screen to portrait mode and the image does not stay well fixed either. It's like it doesn't fit the screen.

How do I factory Reset my device? I lost the manual a couple weeks back.

There seems to be an issue installing the play store. I've wiped and retried multiple times. Everything works great until I install the Gapps pico package. Once it's installed it just sits there stuck on startup looking like its loading the launcher. The message says "Tablet is starting"

blackseraph

Make sure your device is fully unplugged and turned off. Then hold down the F key while turning it on. You will end up in a recovery menu, pick wipe, advanced, select data and swipe to confirm.

blackseraph

Seems fine here. Mind capturing a logcat log and sending it my way? You can find two video guides on how to create said log in my Patreon feed.

Just installed and it works great, although I'm missing the screen mapper software. Is it hidden somewhere or not included in this build?

I seem to be having some trouble getting my computer to detect my device. I held the volume up f and power buttons untill the fan started then let them all go and then my device booted into the android recovery menu but for some reason the device can't be detected when i run the instal bat file. The error in question is "C:\Users\Sethk\OneDrive\Desktop\RG552 Upgrade>ping 127.0.0.1 -n 11 1>nul"

You need to install Rockchip driver that is into the Driver folder

Dark mode seems to be in automatic mode regardless of the setting in the menu. Wallpaper color always determines the mode (and live wallpaper seems to cause light mode)

Well, I got it installed. I noticed this didn't have the button mapper. Is that upcoming in another release of this version? Also, how do I install the OpenGapps I tried setting it up with twrps but twrps can't detect my device and I'm tempted to just switch back to the official firmware at this point.

Any chance of Vulkan?

Download the Gapps from the link in the description. Make sure you pick the right one... ARM64>9.0>Pico. Copy it to the internal storage (I put mine in Downloads). Get to the TWRP recovery using the held button config in the description (Vol+,Function,Power On). In that recovery, choose Install and browse to where you put the file. Run it. Wait. Done. That'll put the store on there and you can grab the other stuff after.

Black-Seraph, you mention doing a Factory Reset. What's the recommended way? I did the reset from within the Android Settings, and when it reboots I just get the Android booting screen and it just stays there. No big deal cuz I can just reflash it. But, am I missing something?

Michael Snipes

The button mapper wasnt doing it for me on andriod 8, it kept interferring with other games amd giving weird buttons issues, like when playing psp or nintendo, the buttons where wonky, but when i reset button mapper back to default position everything would work, what does the F key do now, i havent updated yet

Michael Snipes

What does everyone think of the new andriod pie before i update? Any issues?

Hello sir. Just a quick question before I update. I have been extremely impressed and happy with the GC emulation performance improvement on Dolphin on your latest 8.1 build compared to stock Android. I think the slight overclocking you added made a difference. Is this OC of the 2 cpu clusters still present in the 9.0 version you just released? Thanks in advance for your kind answer

🤗🤗🤗

blackseraph

In fact... You might be seeing a small increase in performance yet again due to the newer GPU drivers. I'm not promising you a miracle here though... The change will be miniscule at best.

Anonymous

Yeah well, I am in for the USB c audio feature alone, as long as there are no expected perf downgrade for emulation

blackseraph

Your best way to reset is to turn the device off, unplug all cables and then hold down the F button while turning it on. It will boot you into TWRP and allow you to wipe the device by going into Wipe -> Advanced -> Data -> Slide to wipe.

Anonymous

thanks. Got the playstore set up :D Also you where right. The F button activates the mapper. This is awesome!

Michael Snipes

What does the "F" button do now in the new andriod 9, havent updated yet, been busy
