FEV makes no sense in the original lore; it's just an easy excuse for "here, impossible mutations, huuuh, science, FEV!" I went full 50's comics corniness when a "genetic mutation" somehow gave people the ability to alter reality with their mind. :P Because yknow, gene from inside the DNA is somehow connected to and manipulate the entire universe...
