hmm... I got a feeling Lou is just showing how much of a different person she is now from who she was before. Facing her trauma, and the one who perhaps caused it, head on. Willing to fight without fear of winning or losing. She definitely seems to have matured a bit, since some pages ago. In other words... It's almost like, she's not just challenging her mother, sorta speak, she's challenging her past, in order to move on to a new future.
