Hello. This isn't Gundam content.
This is the ad-free Patreon upload. Here's the YouTube version. (link)
I had the chance to read 2022's Infinity novel Downfall, review it, and then have a substantial interview with the author. This paid post was not sponsored by Winged Hussar, though they did help me get in touch with author Mark Barber.
I tried to have this video touch on a bit more than just "is the novel any good," because that's pretty boring. The short review section also kind of looks at the way we even view and discuss adaptations and tie-in/licensed works. It's a topic I'd like to dive deeper on in the future, although I think I did a decent job of touching on it for now. In the inevitable Team Zed video, expect me to be both lazier with editing, and also a better interviewer, but also maybe more focused on the licensed-writing experience because that interests me.
The interview portion has a few smaller and more interesting tidbits of Infinity info, but I definitely tried to explore what it's like to work on a licensed project. Is it interesting? Is it just a paycheck?
Mark was really great to chat with. He actually had heard of the channel and had definitely used it while writing the book! he snake eats its own tail_the snake eats its own tail_the snake eats its o
If people want it, I'll also just make a free summary for Patrons in the future who have no plans to read the book. (Which is fair.) I get the sense that a lot of gaming channels just make money by having someone summarize long video games and add commentary.
While editing, I used Google Meetings (I paid for one month to get the video recording feature, pretty nice) and tried out a number of web apps. I liked using Headliner's free version to create the audio waveform of our voices; it's got a decent free option. (by the way - If you see an audio waveform in a video or music video, it's probably just random graphics.) As always, I'm using DaVinci to edit and Canva for motion graphics.
Thank you all so very very much for your support. This one felt like real Content.
