It was a hard work, but finally, in the next update in the Alpha ABS will be full gamepad support.  Also, the gamepad support extension has its own new UI. Buttons mapping, location of elements, graphics - all you can customize and setup


* Not final. Key mapping and UI may be changed when Build is been released


Another features:

 SAN AnalogMove plugin support (experemental), 8-way pixel direction movement


Performance improvements. Good improve in playing spells map animations  and displaying multi-colored text in messages and pop-UPS

 Monsters leveling system.  This will allow the monsters to set special behavior if the player's level is higher than theirs. For example not to join in battle with player (avoid his) or at all to run away (flees) from player. Special map events with a given radius. Within this radius, monsters cannot be spawned or resurrected (if have <reviveTime>).  And some other innovations related to this system.

Is it possible to switch Skills only using directional ← →? Many of us have our games set up with the standard horizontal Skills bar. It would be a lot of work to have to redo everything again.

No need to redo everything. You can configurate gamepad buttons like you want
