Good morning all. Lovely to have Rick, Emilie and Eric in the studio... Boy, I've known Rick for over 10 years now. Both Rick and Emilie are such good people and it was nice to see them on the show and then after for some lunch AND last night at The Lodge Room where we had ourselves a very SINGULAR show: Started off with 20 minutes of Stand Up From me - where I got to try out some new material - some specific for the UK, which worked out great! Then Lean Year played a 20 minute set which was totally beautiful, ethereal, quiet and haunting music....

I came back out to do some music (sorta like a condensed mini Two Tims night.   I started off the music set lightly scolding the audience for talking during Lean Year... I was waiting to go on and I couldn't ignore the light rumbling of chatter from the crowd and it irked me. Jesus, could you shut your trap for this pretty music?  i got some love from the front of the room for that one... I started by talking a bit about the great David Crosby who we lost right after the show on Thursday.  I spoke about how years ago, for some reason, it was funny to me to annoy him on twitter, I guess because he was so active and generally grumpy in a funny way on there.... I used to send him shit like this:

and once I recorded and sent to him a TERRIBLE and deranged Cover of "Cut My Hair"    to which he replied... "Yuck"

But I think I've told the story here before, I ended up meeting him last year through my friend Becca Stevens, a member of his Lighthouse band and she invited me to meet him at the studio and he was really nice and kind and we talked about all sorts of fun stuff. I'm pretty sure he didn't think or connect me to those stupid tweets.  I recommend this record all the time, but "Here If You Listen" from him is such a pretty, late great piece of work from him - He smartly surrounded himself with young, hip players who pushed him and helped give his music an edge that few others of his generation seem interested in exploring.

After the short set I went backstage and Emilie was there with a concerned look on her face - "Tim, Marilyn (my wife) fainted... she's ok but they called the paramedics" Oh no! I rushed out to find her sitting, embarrassed, being monitored by some paramedics, Captain Carlin was there and witnessed it. Apparently she was one of the talking offenders I scolded and told me she felt bad, then kinda had a feeling of panic and then went down. In reality it was a general rumble of chatter so it certainly wasn't her I was knowingly directing my scold.    She was totally fine and we went backstage and hung out and all had a relieved laugh about the whole thing. I felt terrible for her, because she very rarely goes out to shows and she loved Lean Year so this was a night she was looking forward to. Well, it certainly will be a memorable one!

Excited to get in the studio with the band in a few weeks. Got a lot of numbers to record - Not sure yet which direction the record will take, but a lot of the songs has a sorta, narrative, story song form, a lot of talk about a vague post apocalyptic world, from various points of view. Some are just fun rockers. Always a process of discovery to see what's sticking.... Here's a little taste, (attached) from our rehearsal the other night where we ran through a few tunes  and rolled a little tape to capture it.  Gonna sound great when we lay it down for real!

See you Wednesday!

Peace & Love, T
