Content

You are all the best Patrons ever so, rather than decide to do things on my own, I'd like to get your opinion on what you'd like to read next month.

After reading everyone's excellent suggestions, I've mostly decided what I'd like to do for July but I'm considering a few options.

Firstly, I have about 2.5 parts worth of content left for story 9. I was considering pushing myself to get it out in 2 parts, but I would rather get it out in three. The last part would be around 1k-1.2k words and posted July 7th (so I would only take a half week off instead of a full week). Frankly, this works out better for me because large chapters take more time and mental energy to edit. Also, I don't feel like I can edit them to the quality they deserve.

Since that doesn't feel like enough for that week, I'll also post a short non-spoilery synopsis of the general direction story 10 will take and ask you all for things you'd like to see happen. If it's something that fits in with my plans or is just plain fun, I'll add it to my outline!

With the first week (July 7th) being taken care of, that leaves the two weeks I'll need to write story 10. July 14th and July 21st.

So that I can focus on getting the story out with fewer distractions, I won't post anything on July 14, except for some artwork I'm commissioning and the Story 10 Cover I'm working on. Maybe I can add a few snippets of some WIP lines from story 10, as well.

That leaves the week of July 21st. By that point, I will have a good chunk of Story 10 written (but probably not all of it since I think it will be a massive story). I can do two things here. I can either edit a short chapter (like I'm planning to for July 7th), I can write a vignette about Early Rise Swift Brush and his Dao of Paperwork followers, or I can write a vignette about Clear Eyes Mad Tongue and the mission Lin didn't want him to take.

By the 28th, I'll be back to doing regular chapters, one way or another.

I decided against pausing this Patreon and taking all of July off because, frankly, I work better under pressure. Knowing that you're all supporting me and waiting impatiently for more content inspires me to get my shit done.

So, which would you like to see on the 21st?

If we do the dao of paperwork, please introduce us to the legend who filed for a easier tribulation.

Two or three would be awesome. Digging into story 10 would just stress you out if you did it halfway.. 🙂

This seems unhealthy and the opposite of a break. Sure, maybe it's fine in your normal life, or fine enough if you're able to handle it, but not for when you take a break. Reminds me of being ADHD and only being able to get stuff done under pressure because that's the only way we've ever been able to get over procrastination. Idk if that's it for you, but it's unhealthy either way.

I mean, I certainly have ADHD, but it’s not the pressure specifically that motivates me. I’m motivated by fun and challenges and I use that knowledge to help me get things done. I’m always searching for the fun in any activity I have to do (but it’s not like I don’t do things I hate). I actually hate editing, but I adore having edited. And I enjoy posting quality content to Royal Road and Patreon because I love reading comments and replying to them. I love writing stories readers and myself enjoy. That is my motivation, above all else. Pressure/ or body doubling through having patrons and fans just helps me choose to put out content rather than work on it in private while only sharing it with my writers group. I’m not saying I’m a healthy person, but I am the type of person who finishes things (for instance I returned from a 2 year hiatus to finish book 1 of Tome of Stealth).

Whew. That's amazing to hear! I try my best to be positively motivated in a similar sense but it isn't easy. In this case, your pressure seems to actually be one of the most positive use cases of pressure I've ever heard of. I never thought about it that way. My main worry was making sure you got a sufficient break, so I'm happy that it sounds like you will. You're just excited to get things out and published due to all the people excited to read what you write. I'm glad. 😊
