I will tell you true.. I never see a laserdisc before! I have see them in shops but I did not watch one. The machine to play laserdiscs now are expensive because the  technology are old and they break a lot. But did you know in Japan the  Laserdisc was available in early 1980's and was quite successful things? It was much more popular for a long time than VHS tape. This is because in  Japan the laserdisc was stay quite cheap but in other countries it was very expensive. Also there is humidity problem in asian country (very humidity!! ) and this make the VHS tape easy to damage 😕

Almost all Laserdisc player machines were made by Pioneer a Japanese company. they sold a lot and many great movies and anime were put onto it.

The Laserdisc size is big! Like the old records machine. So the player also very big. The country the Laserdisc have most success in the world is Japan so maybe we will look at some interesting Laserdisc released there later. 🥰

I am really surprised the Beta tape didn't come up in the comments here. Because right around that time, in the US at least, we were transitioning from Beta to VHS. And the laserdisc was very much a "rich people" thing because they were super expensive here. I had a friend that had a Pioneer Laserdisc player and I remember watching one of the Star Wars movies on it. And that was in the early 80's.

Since the 90s I have been fascinated by the LD format but as you wrote, Sisi while it was popular in Japan in my country it sadly was not. I have tried to buy an LD player a few times but with no success. Still, I love the LD format because the covers are so large. As an anime fan, I always thought it would be amazing to own LD anime box sets. But when DVD came out, I embraced the format. Physical media is still the best in my opinion. ^^ Great research! I enjoyed reading.
