Choice menu position and transparency changes (0.1.2 beta) (Patreon)

Hi guys and gals,

with 0.1.2 beta and later versions, the choice menu will be changed.

  • Position is no longer in the middle, but very far up now
  • Oppacity has been reduced, so that you can see better what's behind
  • Spacing/distance between the menu choices has been reduced as well

Also the text box at the lower end of the screen has been changed. I have made it smaller and less intruding.

All these changes should help to get an even better game experience.

Thanks buddy. I hope it does. Even wanted to make it configurable. But right now, Ren'Py doesn't support it without writing my own code to display the choice menu, which was too much work. I hope the new positioning and the other changes work well enough for everyone.

Man, I haven't played in over a month. When the update comes out it will be almost like playing for the first time. Lookibg forward to it!

Yes, it looks good, although it is too rich. I would remove some of the not-too-used functions in some extra menu

It's not a complete redesign. Only what is directly needed is visible. Everything else is already in sub menues. I'm really not a big fan of the new UI crap microsoft and most of the other companies are putting out nowadays. Not everything has to look like made for a mobile phone if I use it on a PC. Why should I have to click 3 times instead of just once.

Put it at the bottom. The flow of user eye-motion goes top-left to bottom-right. Having to go back up to interact with something is jarring. The opacity & spacing changes are good though.

I know. You are right about your observation. It's a trade off. I can put it at the bottom, but it will be in the way obscuring stuff a lot more often than when it's on top.

Out of curiosiy: How does it work with several answer-options? Right now, with only two, it looks decent but won't it obscure the face of the person when you do like the several-answer chat?

Hi Sam, it works wirh an anchor system. You can either anchor it on top or bottom. The screenshot is with top anchor. Which means additional options will be added below. I've already changed it (again) and moved it to the very bottom (with bottom anchor). Additional options will be added above in that case. No matter what I do or where I put it - too many options and it will always be in the way.
