Hey folks, I've got a few ideas of things I'd like to start doing or do more of in 2024, and I'd love to get your opinion on what you'd like to see. While I won't be able to do everything, depending on which options are most popular, I can probably do more than one, so vote for all the ones that sound interesting to you. I've listed them here in ascending order of how difficult they are to add to my workflow, but don't worry about that too much. Regardless of the options, I probably won't be able to start on any of these until March at the earliest. Oh, and if there's anything you'd like to see that isn't on this list, please comment and let me know. If there's something that sounds good, I'll definitely consider it (Except for top 10 lists. That's just not my style).

Q&A - This would be a kind of companion to the newsletter. It would probably be livestreamed (though recorded and uploaded later), probably Patreon-exclusive, and it's exactly what it sounds like. If there are any questions you have, I'd try to answer them and maybe talk about things that are going in the board gaming world. Depending on interest I could do this monthly, but would probably start out at every other month.

Behind the Scenes - In a similar vein to the Q&A, this would be a series of short behind the scenes videos that detail the process of making a tutorial. It would be a little more scrappy than the tutorials themselves, but if you want to know how the sausage is made, this would be great for that. It would also go into how working for Rahdo and Above Board plays into it all. Again, this would be Patreon-exclusive.

How to Teach - I used to make videos that gave tips on how to teach games better. I stopped doing them because I didn't feel I had the time, but I still have a few more ideas for things to talk about, so if there's interest, I could probably make a few more each year. These would not be Patreon-exclusive, but I'd give y'all early access.

Gameplay livestream - This is something I've been thinking about for a long time, but it's a daunting thing to pull the trigger on. I don't have the capability to have a standing set in my apartment, so this wouldn't be incredibly high production value. At least, not at first. But I have someone in mind who I think would be interested in joining me about once a week, or maybe every other week, to play games on TTS. When possible I would likely cover games I'd recently taught, and this would go up on youtube. I'd also be much more capable of playing some of the games that y'all have been requesting that don't quite make the polls.

Just better tutorials - This is kind of the nuclear option in that there are a few things I've been thinking about that could improve my tutorials, but in order to implement them all, I'd have to focus all of my energy on just this. These are: better quality green screen-based sketches and graphics, upgrading my tech for better inserts and lighting, redecorating and changing how I film myself, and improving the graphics/captions/thumbnails and all that kinda stuff. As it is I'll probably be rolling out a few of these upgrades regardless over the year, but it would be a lot slower if I'm also doing any of the other new features, so voting for this is kind of saying you don't want anything else.

Would love to see the "How to Teach" vids make a comeback, as I find myself being the "teach guy" at our meet-ups and would benefit from some ideas about how to fill that necessary-but-sometimes-frustrating/stressful role better. And to echo the poster above, your videos right now are excellent, but I would very much like to see you advance your already quite good production skills. Looking forward to another great year of content! 🖖

Is there an option for “Just more tutorials”? Like Anni said, I think your tutorials are high quality as-is.

RTFM

It's something I'm looking into, but for the moment, it's just not feasible for me. The amount of work-hours that go into making tutorials the way I do is quite high, so I either need to figure out a way to shoot/edit faster or hire people to help, and neither of those is particularly easy or cheap. It's a long-term goal for sure, but I don't think it'll be happening this year.
