Well folks, this strange new existence continues ever onward, so we must decide how to continue to fill our time. I've been very hard at work on several new projects. Hopefully you've seen the new Dune tutorials. This certainly isn't the ideal circumstance for teaching a 6 player game, but such are the cards we've been dealt. Now I can move on to learning this great beast.

I played my first game the other night as the Free Peoples and was soundly thrashed, though I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'm already thinking about how to play differently. Maybe next time the Shadow will have a harder go at taking Gondor. This time around, well...

Yeah...the story didn't quite go as originally told. I borrowed this copy of the game from The Brothers Murph, who did the painting on it. Nick says this is the first game he ever painted and he's terribly embarrassed by it, but I think he did a fine job. I'd use it for the video except that not all of the pieces are finished. I'm also trying to get a hold of the expansions, including the new one that should be coming out later this year, but as Ares Games is an Italian company and their American warehouse is locked down due to the pandemic, that's proving to be more difficult than I hoped for. I might just pick up the expansions that are out, or maybe I'll wait on the expansion videos and do them a little later. Time will tell.

Outside of RTFM, you may have seen me doing a run through of Call to Adventure over on Rahdo's channel. They've hired me to make a few videos for them and asked which game I'd like to cover as an introductory video. Call to Adventure was an easy choice for me, as I really like it and It's something that Rahdo wouldn't have ever touched. I've also got a video for Sea of Legends, a big pirate kickstarter game that's going up tomorrow, that deserves the success I'm sure it's going to get.

My set up has changed a bit since I took this picture, but man, this format of shooting is very different from what I'm used to. I think I'm getting the hang of it, but wrangling all these wires and tech gremlins has been quite a task. That being said, I'm very excited for what comes next.

One thing I've been a little surprised to find is which games I've been going back to more and more as the lockdown continues. I wouldn't have guessed it, but Spirit Island has been at the top of the list for me. While I still think it works best at three, it's such a good medium-weight two player game that we just keep coming back to it. The past month has been a little more stressful than usual, and with the time I've had to play games at all, I often want something that distracts me but isn't too taxing on my time or energy. I'm sure some of you can relate. For whatever reason, Spirit Island is filling that niche for me very well.

What about you? Which games do you find are helping you cope the best?

LOVE WotR!! I agree, it's been tough getting to the table. Dawn of the Zeds, Victoriana, Mage Knight, and Dresden Files have been leading the way in my solo-player land...still getting up the wherewithal to attack Gloom/Shadows of Kilforth. I'll probably break out Shadows of Brimstone soon. Online, my friends and I have been playing a ton of Terraforming Mars and Sentinels of the Multiverse. Thank you for providing content and "contact" during these times.

So good! I have wotr but I need to make the leap and learn it. I've also been playing spirit island two player, such a good puzzler for two. I've been playing a lot of Gloomhaven over TTS with two friends, nearly at the end of the campaign now. I'll be sad when it goes because there is nothing comparable to Gloomhaven out there. Other games we've been playing at two are Concordia on small maps, Terra Mystica, Codenames duet, Azul, 7 Wonders Duel. I have Mage Knight setup and ready to learn... That's a leap I need to take too

RTFM

Of course! I hear Mage Knight works great solo, but I've only ever played it multi. I haven't tried the Kilforth games, but they look pretty cool. Though they certainly do look a little daunting, so I get why they haven't hit the table yet. Best of luck!

I've been playing the Forgotten Circles expansion a bit, and I like it but I don't think it was designed for two players as much as three/four. If you finish the main campaign and are looking for more, I'd definitely recommend it. I've also played a little Codenames Duet lately. That's one of those games I always forget about, and then I come back to it and get surprised that, yes, I do in fact like this game. I haven't played Mage Knight in quite a while, but I can definitely see it being a game to get into if you've got the players and the time. I hear it works great as a solo too.

I've been really busting out a lot of my euro games and trying out the solo modes. Underwater Cities, Terraforming Mars, and Dinosaur Island were recent ones. Spirit Island has always been a favorite of mine too, so it's neat to see you still get plays from it! Also, def saw your Call to Adventure cameo on Rahdo's channel, and it's so cool to see both of you collaborating :)

RTFM

Thanks, I'm excited about the collaboration too! Also, I've played the Terraforming Mars solo mode a bunch of times and I have never once beaten it D:

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying wotr. I've just recently learned the rules to my copy and I'm excited to get it to the table when I get a chance. It honestly seems like the perfect game to be playing during a lockdown. Right now, my SO and I are wrapped up in Gloomhaven. We're also probably going to play spirit island in the next day or so, which I just sent her the link to your video to give her a primer for it.

Nice! Just finished my 2nd game of WotR. Lost again but felt a bit better about it. I've been playing a bit of Gloomhaven, but for some reason it hasn't hit the table as much as I thought it would. Hope Spirit Island goes well for you!

I've been gaming almost exclusively on Steam to get my fix. Terraforming Mars works well which is my go to. If my mates aren't free, I don't mind the solo, and actually quite enjoy playing the AI - which goes pretty quick. We've also tried a few roll and writes where one of us streams the core bits and everyone fills out their boards and we chat over Zoom. Railroad Ink and Welcome to have both worked well. But in Australia, where opening up things now and can have gatherings of up to 20 people, so last week we kicked into face to face again with Battlestar Galactica and started Pandemic Legacy.

RTFM

Glad to hear things are opening up again for you. Best of luck with Pandemic Legacy! It's a pretty unique experience and I had a ton of fun with it.
