Hey Rules Lawyers! Another month has passed and this one has been incredibly busy for me. Mostly unrelated to games, unfortunately, but I did manage to put up some extra Gloomhaven videos. There's the strategy video for $5 backers, which will help you get started without some of the pitfalls I encountered at the beginning of this game. There's a video on house rules, which I had a lot of fun talking about and learning about other people's rules in the comments. And lastly I did one on player aids, where several people in the comments have politely informed me about how wrong I am for choosing Gloomhaven Guild over Gloomhaven Helper (the app isn't available on iphone!).
Anyway, I played a few good games this month. I playtested a game from designer John D. Clair (who made Mystic Vale and Space Base), which was quite fun and involved rolling meeples. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it, so here's a shot of Gizmos, which I also played while I was there
It's a simple engine builder with a marble gimmick, and it's fun, but not amazing. Other games played include Beasts of Balance, which is more of an activity than a full on game, but it's still quite entertaining. the Brothers Murph stopped by and, as you can see from the header image, teamwork makes the dream work.
It went about as well as you might expect.
We also busted out Cosmic Encounter, which I haven't played in years despite being on my 10x10. What are you gonna do? Anyway, the Murphs had never played it before, so it was fun to introduce to new players, and also to remind myself of just how good that game is.
And lastly I've had a couple articles go up on Geek and Sundry if you want to check those out. First is on Founders of Gloomhaven, which is a very heavy euro and nothing like Gloomhaven in mechanics, but is still quite good. And second is Hard City, which is like playing a ridiculous 80's action movie, complete with a genetically enhanced crime-fighting dog!
Alright, that's enough of that. Here's the 10x10. I am determined to get at least 66% on this by the end of the year. Well...we'll see.
