Hey everyone!

I'm putting out some feelers to get opinions on modular tilesets and assets. My current style for making maps doesn't lend itself very well to being modular due to the perspective I like to design them around. I'd also like to great some products that have more re-usability as I know most of my maps are pretty specific and limited in how they can be used.

I have been toying with the idea of making another type of map that would be designed with modularity and easy asset use in mind. Right now I'm thinking these would be pretty simple to start off with while I dip my toe in this sort of thing, plus I need to learn how to properly set up tilesets.

I would like to gauge interest in this sort of thing in general so if you can take part in this poll and leave a comment with specific feedback/suggestions if you have any, that would be super helpful!

Thank you!

In my case I don't use tiles at all, because I like the whole set piece of a map. But I also work a lot with assets, either in DungeonDraft or in addition on my VTT maps. So I gladly see assets of yours, but I think I have no real use of tiles.

Thank you for the feedback! Regarding assets, what kind do you find most useful and are there any kind of assets you wish people did more of?

The thing which drew me to your maps was their amazing colours, locations and styles, as well as the fact that you were doing things I'd not seen any other map maker do. They've been instrumental in my games for creating amazing set pieces. I'd be fascinated to see what you could come up with in terms of a tile sets, or maps that could be connected together.

Thanks for asking! In my case it is very specific. E.g. I have a brand new feudal Japan/Anime-based campaign, where there are very few assets to get to design interiors or landscapes. I was lucky when I finally found bamboo!

Thank you for the kind words and feedback! I'll admit, I am definitely nervous about making a tileset as I'm unsure if I could pull off anything worthwhile due to the more restrictive nature of them lol But it seems enough people either want them or are just willing to see how I do so it's worth a try! Quick question: You mention that I'm doing things you haven't seen any other map maker do, do you have any specific examples? I do indeed try to do different things but I can't always tell what has been successful or not so it would be awesome to get feedback on that if possible :)

I'm not well versed in feudal (or even modern) Japanese culture, if you'd like to throw out a quick list of assets you'd like to see then that would be super useful to be able to work off if/when I have time to do assets for that theme. I can also send it along to more asset focused creators for ideas and maybe we'll end up with more feudal Japan asset packs in general.

OMG, that would be super awesome! I try to gather assets other DM pals and me are missing most of the time, not only Japan based but in general. Thanks for the offer, wow wow!

An example for me would be the Edge of the World Map. The environments you have chosen to depict (and their options that you've come up with) I've not seen anywhere else. They are fantastical, eye catching, and make for wonderful centrepieces.

Thank you :) I've always been worried about whether or not it is a good idea to make locations that ultimately have limited reuse because they are so specific. I just can't bring myself to make generic locations, they just aren't fun to do really, guess I just gotta keep going with what I'm doing, seems people are enjoying that so that's awesome :D

Yeah honestly any kind of asset you and other's find lacking is useful information in general. So when you have a list/s, send me a direct message and I'll see what I can do :)
