I wish I had decent baking skills. I'd even settle for decent cooking skills :p There used to be a popular mentality that putting effort into stuff was super lame and made someone ridicule worthy, it is still kinda strong with kids/teens today. I think that might be a big part of Lars self confidence issues, baking isn't skill he feels will make him "cool". And no matter how much his friends tell him it is and that he is, he wont hear it if he doesn't believe it himself.
