So yeah, it is a little confusing. But basically Kuro is the Holy Grail vessel. Like how Illya was in the main series timeline. But here they sealed it away which resulted in Illya splitting into two halves. Though Kuro actually has probably about 80% of the Grail powers while Illya has like 20%. Comparing it to Eve and Marie is actually pretty accurate. They're two halves of the same whole, but easiest to just think of them as sisters. That's what they view themselves as anyway. And yes you will never escape the roommate curse. Never XD.
