We are back from Dragoncon!! It was an awesome show with a lot of great energy and amazing people. We had a blast meeting and hanging out with a lot of you who were there and who came out to our panels. Annie and I both really excited to dive back into painting, especially with Halloween almost upon us!!

Now, to business.... While at the show, I got a ton of encouragement and positive feedback on the monsters series. So many people asking, when am I going to finish it? Where is the next sketch book? Where is the field guide? What is happening next for the series?? I got absolutely pummeled for it! I left the show really encouraged and excited to dive back in and start finishing it again. But where to start?

After recovering from the show, I decided to start piecing all the monsters together with their factions in a series of 7 posters I am calling “The Peculiar Denizens” series. They are loosely based around locations in the world that I've been creating, and feature the various creatures encountered by the owl wizard (our helpful tour guide for this world).

My goal is to release a series of 7 prints, featuring all of the monsters thus far, and I'd like to have 3 of these "peculiar denizen" posters for Halloween this year as 11x14" prints.  Going through and organizing all of my monsters in this way has been an incredibly helpful in finding out who and what is still missing from the series. The most nearly completed poster was the "Banisher's Library," a place populated by miscreants who have snuck back into our world to cause chaos. I finished the Rhinomander yesterday (in a fit of painting panic), and now only the Cyclopian Cerberus remains for this poster to be completed. The other locations... are not so close.

Which brings me to "the Grubbling Mire" and a preview of our Monster of the Month for October...

"Hunted by Crabbits, hated by Scorpkins, The deadly Scarrot is feared by all..."

"The Grubbling Mire" is still quite a ways off from finishing, but it features a lot of our early Halloween-themed creatures, like the Sluglord and the Scorpkin. Along with the Scarrot, I will be painting several other monsters as well for Halloween this year:

There has been a lot to talk about the monster of the month project recently, (largely thanks to Acheron games licensing several of them), and I am just really excited to dive back into it for the Holidays. I may still try to do a big Halloween-themed battle this year, but I'm not sure at the moment. It might make more sense to just focus on finishing more monsters so we can release more of these posters for Halloween. I'll be discussing it more and asking for your feedback when I share the complete preview of all 7 posters in a Monster Update post on Monday!
