This month has been a whirlwind! First up, Annie and I are now sponsored by Jerry's Artarama.  So in the coming months I will be sharing some product reviews as well as some high res art made using some of the goodies that they've sent me as part of the program.  You'll hear more about this in the coming months, but for today, I have a Dragon Head Study to share with you, painted in Lukas Water Mixable Oils that Jerry's sent me to try out. In the Process Guide below you can see the stages the painting went through to complete this.

I am working on a 9"x12" inch Ampersand Smooth Finish Artist Panel. For paints, they sent me an underpainting set of Raw Umber, Titanium White, and Ivory Black.

The Lukas oils are excellent compared to other water mixable oils on the market. They were not quite as smooth as the Talons water mixables that I usually work with, but they seemed to dry a little faster, which I like.

JULY SNEAK PREVIEW:

July is going to be an exciting month, and below you will find a sneak preview of July's Classic Fantasy Illustration.  It is a 16" x 20" oil painting based on a pastoral scene from my Plague of Dragons series. You can expect to receive a high-res of the finished drawing, underpainting, final painting, as well as a process guide later in the month.

I am very excited about this one. I have been saving it for several months now as I waited for a large enough block of time in my schedule that I could fit it in. (I paint slower in oils than I do in digital or watercolor, so I need to budget my schedule for that) I have some very special plans for this image, something fun I haven't done in a long time, that I am excited to share with you.... but you will have to wait for next month for it.  :)  July should be a very interesting month...
