Announcing the Tutorials Tier! (Patreon)

Today we are officially adding Tutorials! Thank you guys for making this possible! The new tier, "The Order of the Gryphon" will provide subs with monthly in-depth, written step-by-step guides and technique tutorials. 

So what kind of tutorials will these be? 

#1 Step-by-step Guides: These guides will show you exactly what steps I am taking in my process as I work through an image.  They will feature either a monster from our Monster-of-the-Month series, or a full scene from our Classic Fantasy Illustration of the month. I will be going into high detail on the tools and art principles I am using to create my work.

#2 Technique Tutorials: The tutorials will focus on the specific tools and techniques I use to create my work. They will examine useful skills that I use in all my work (such as using Color Dodge to create dramatic lighting) and will feature many different illustrations.  

These posts will show all the materials and tools used and the stages I went through to create each image. My goal with these guides is that if you wanted to work on a similar image of your own you could follow along with the tutorial to try out the technique. I am aiming to make each post around 1500 words long and packed out with as many images as I can fit in. 

Why Step-by-Step guides? Because I love them! They are how I learned how to illustrate. In school I stole copies of a magazine called Step-by-Step Graphics from our school library. The issues offered guides by Peter DeSeve, Scott Gustafson, Greg Manchess and Sergio Martinez and these became foundational to my career. They taught me most of the illustration techniques that I use in my work to this day. Without them I think I might never have gotten where I am. I never gave them back and I never will!! I've stolen from the next generation of artists and like Smaug I am hoarding all the treasure for myself!!!  

*ahem* 

So for our first entry I will be breaking down this month's Classic Fantasy Illustration, Summoning the Void into two posts, the first one "design and drawing" will be live today! I will also be wrapping this month's Vile Trickery into the post with some pencil tricks. This post will be free for everyone.  The second will be on detailing and color and will land tomorrow.
