So we have gone with "the Wandering Jinglethorp" for December's Monster of the Month! (And we'll be saving the Pygmy Yeti for a later post!)

Recently, I've been reading up on Latin naming, and realized that I've been doing it wrong with the last few monsters. The names, like the creatures, are of course made up. But I do want to keep things as grounded as possible. (Always important when working with the fantastic) And having the actual naming conventions wrong bothers me. I want these to be like a real natural philosopher was studying them and giving them a taxonomical classification.

Apparently the first word is the generic name, which identifies the genus the creature belongs to, and the second word is some descriptor or epithet of the particular species.  Also the second word is always in lower caps. Cool to know.

I'm of course making the latin names up out of thin air and hopefully no one who is actually reading this is a latin expert and going to call me out on it... (right guys? right?) That said, I may actually try and find someone who is an expert on it amend them before making anything printed :)

Lastly, the name and story for this guy will be explained when I post the hi-res final. I have a pretty solid idea for what his backstory is, but all sorts of things come to me as I paint the character, and I want to leave room for those ideas to make themselves known before committing to a specific story. Stay tuned...
