Another film set in the Miners strike (and is the basis for the story) is the brilliant 2014 film Pride, based on the true story of how the group "Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners" (LGSM) raised thousands of pounds for striking miners in the Dulais, Neath and Swansea valleys. It's a little more of a comedy than Billy Elliot but is still one of those "feel good" movies and most definitely worth a watch.

For background KB, the miners strike of 1984-5 was real and was nationwide and the thatcher government destroyed the mining industry and tried to smash the unions, with the police disgracefully politicied for her ends and their disgusting behaviour during the strike means that many never truly trusted them fully again. Whole towns were devistated by the strike and the governments actions. This was just one of her many crimes against class and the country outside of the South of England.

The unusual bridge is a car transporter bridge in Middlesborough with a cage slung on cables below the bridge.
