I think I'm finally realising why I never liked these series as much as the first 6, and it's not the increased budget or added crew as I always thought (it is bit but that's more a cause than what I didn't like), it's because the plot started to take on a story arc but the episodes were never long enough to actually follow through. The beauty of all the previous series was that one episode to the next it didn't matter long term. Series 7 started to make it matter, and this also, particularly with the long 3 episode intro did, then you have this episodical ending without consequence. If it had been a series 4 episode, all good. But they've introduced a completely different dynamic in this series and now I know why I hated it. EDIT: Of course now I know why, I can actually enjoy it a bit now.
