I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but there was a 4 year gap between seasons 6 and 7 due to the Grant / Naylor writing partnership splitting up. You also keep mentioning the 'bigger budgets', but Red Dwarf's budget was never significantly increased during its run. It's amazing what was achieved despite this.

Yes, the 4 year gap has been covered. But the budget thing is interesting. If anything, the budget was reduced somewhat. During that 4 year gap, it became easier to do more digital effects (call it CGI if you want, but it isn't quite that) than the rather expensive practical model effects used in S1 to S6. I'm a bit of a purist, so I prefer those practical models - on the other hand, we wouldn't have had that gorgeous reveal of all the Ace coffins forming a ring around a planet. There's no way they could have done that 4 years earlier. Swings and Roundabouts.

Once again King you've given us a great reaction! I absolutely love this episode, I can remember when I first seen the ending and I was blown away. To see Rimmer realising that there is more to his existence is so heartwarming, to know that he was more than just the butt of all jokes. I personally think the ending scene that shows all the other Rimmer's coffins orbiting a Red Dwarf Star is a masterpiece, especially combined with the music score during that scene. I also love how when the camera zooms out, the Red Dwarf Star and orbiting Rimmers look like the shows logo. (A "Red Dwarf" actually is a type of star in case you didn't know 😀) I won't spoil anything, but Red Dwarf will still have you laughing like hell :D
