I'm not certain of this, but I think it's possible that ALL firebenders in the Fire Nation are in the military except maybe the Fire Sages. I don't think we've EVER seen one that isn't--they probably conscript them all. Also they just don't seem to have as many benders as the Earth Nation or Northern Water Tribe.

In "The Headband " Sokka explained that the Gaang is traveling overland to the fire nation capital (because Aang flipped out and ran away and they had to hunt him down and separate from their dad again (way to go Aang)), while his dad Hakota gathers an invasion force and meets them there for the eclipse. So the schedule still kinda matters in that they have to get there before the day of the eclipse. I think Sokka was just overplanning the schedule to begin with.

It looks like Combustion Man uses his breathing to launch his attacks. If you notice he takes a deep breath before firing. I'm assuming he's using the tattoo as a focus point. If that point gets injured it seems to interrupt his ability to focus on said point. I'd also say his power came first. That could explain why his arm and leg are metal. Possible injuries from discovering his powers?

I can't believe you guys skipped over the best joke and moment from this episode at the same time...those being the latter half of the note writing joke and sokka explaining about katara and his mom

2021-08-25 15:14:04 This was such a great for Toph, Sokka and Katara. I really love how they scam scammers with Earthbending and I love the return of Wang Fire. This episode really shows how much Katara and Sokka care about each other. And how much their mothers death affected the both of them. It also really shows the core of Katara's character. It was also great to see Toph expressing how she felt about her parents and Katara. It was great to see Combustion Man again and I loved combustion bending being confirmed. Also the fight against him was awesome. Katara realizing she could use her sweat was always a great moment. Great reaction as always. :>D
