One of the reasons why I loved Azula right off the bat was because of how threatening she already appeared as an actual antagonist for Team Avatar. We had Zhao and Zuko before, but I never felt a sense of dread or worry when they went up against Team Avatar since I knew they would get wrecked lol. Azula on the other hand, she's manipulative, controlling, and has this air of intimidation around her. She likes when things go her way and when it doesn't or if you dare to defy her, she will literally make your life a living hell (as shown with Ty Lee and I believe even Mai knew that as well, which was why she readily listened to Azula's "suggestions"). She gives no fucks and I find that a bit frightening. Every time her theme plays, I get bad vibes xD

exactly, zuko was just as pure evil until "the storm" when we got his backstory. plus, we have to remember that zuko has Iroh with him, who does not come across as evil and seems like a Yoda type good guy. Zuko without Iroh loses all the comedic and moral stuff. Azula has no one who is above her who she has to listen to or be around other than her father. Who is the FIRE LORD. Iroh lost a son and parented Zuko a lot. Azula clearly did not get that given that Iroh wanted to risk death in the earth kingdom rather than go to her. SPOILERS ON THIS PARAGRAPH, NORMAL COMMENT CONTINUES BELOW IT. Azula had no one who has any sort of real relationship with her like that. She hung out with Mei and Ty Lee but it was never healthy or a real equal friendship. She is not right mentally due to her many years of living in that enviroment and the expectations thrown upon her. Zuko had Iroh and another character(not yet revealed, but its his mom) that kept him okay mentally until his father banished him and he went bad. Azula never had that support from anyone. Azula bought into her grandfather and her fathers ideals at a very early age. Her own mother doted on Zuko and was to late to help Azula before she turned into a monster. Ozai manipulated Azula into his ideal heir. Azula is mentally ill. I genuinely feel bad for Azula given her past and the comics. No spoilers As an audience, we don't have any foil for her or anyone to mitigate the evil like we do with Zuko. Azula is in total control and will achieve anything she wants to. At this point, she is presumably a royal prodigy who has had people wait on her for her whole life. Does she even know what a friend is? probably not. Zuko clearly doesn't yet. The only semi-healthy relationship he has is with Iroh. Azula's father is a brutal warlord who Zuko says constantly praises her. Im not sure how much more explicit they can make it. Mei and Ty Lee are scared of her, and they should be.

Remember how long the start-up time was for shooting lightning? She had to go through a whole motion to do it. She had to sweep her arms back and forth, then bring her hands close to her chest before firing. It takes time to get it ready and is presumably very hard to do. Whereas she can just shoot fire all over the place really fast. Lightning is when she has the time to set up a "kill shot." Look what happened when she fought Zuko. It took too long to fire and Iroh grabbed her hand and redirected it. She could have shot fire multiple times there but she was going for an insta-kill and took to long. It has its drawbacks. Otherwise she would be unstoppable.
