Well think of it like this. You've been mentally transported against your will to a dead witch's mindscape, who then tricks you into drinking her own body fluids, which was laced with something you didn't know, scares the crap out of you when she goes full psycho when telling you about the other witches, all the while having the last memory of the real world be the girl you love suddenly falling unconscious. Not saying that he shouldn't have asked question now, but it's understandable why he didn't quite trust her yet. Also he's been in this world for around 2 months, not a year at all.

I’m sure I’ll get shit on for even saying as much, but I like when others express their opinions respectfully on things I might enjoy, so here goes. I genuinely feel Squid Game is the most overrated show to come out in quite some time. It starts off incredibly promising, sure, with the first three episodes being absolutely top tier for me… and then it started to quickly devolve. Characters growing increasingly erratic in motivations intelligence and having bipolar behaviors, cringy and predictable twists, incredibly shallow (and stereotypical) social commentary, and a completely lackluster ending. My wife and I weren’t trying to, but we predicted damn near everything in the show and what we didn’t predict was still underwhelming. This wasn’t even a hype thing either, since we saw it when it first came out and still we just.. I don’t know. We liked it, but we were frustrated by the final three episodes and now it’s the hottest thing. It’s incredibly well done production wise, and the acting is great, but the writing really felt half-baked and the fact that so many people praise it for that particular facet makes me feel like I’m an alien or something.

I pretty much agree with most your points, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't understand why Squid Game is popular. It has all the ingredients that allow it to be popular with the general audience. Great production quality, relatable characters, high intensity moments, great acting, etc (also very binge-able). But, most importantly, it can hook an audience with an interesting gimmick (death games) in addition to being strong in the aspects mentioned above. Stuff like story and deep levels of social commentary aren't as important to the average viewer. As long as the person watching feels attached to the characters, and feels a certain level of excitement from scene to scene, there's a good chance for a show to receive a high amount of appeal. As another example, look at something like the Marvel franchise. You can basically make a lot of the same criticisms about shallow story/themes and predictability, yet its still enjoyed by so many people.

Sorry I'm kinda new so this might be a stupid question but in regards to Squid Game, I see that I can watch up to episode 5, but when do 6, 7, 8 & 9 come out? Does it then become weekly? Not that it really matters, as I know these guys have a lot going on. Just curious :)
