oh my... i would almost say that the dub butchered that episode.. Almost no emotion, and the change of "since you don't care". But glad they still seem to like the ep and got the most important points. Its not that the dub makes this a bad episode, it is just that the sub version is so incredible and tense.

Edgar

I feel like what we have seen of Gon in this episode. Its the near culmination and characterization of Gon and his psyche since the beginning. His own moral compass is questionable at best and while Kite was the catalyst of his current mentality forming even stronger he always had some questionalbe morality . And before this ep most people really wanted gon to fuck shit up and kill pitou, takes his revenge . But its one of HxH stronger points to subvert expectations and show one of the most intense episode in the whole show just characters being in a room and the watcher does not even want the actual fight due to context . As for the dub , I was actually let down when it came to Gon's VA . Japanase version was something else entirely , it felt like Gons soul was screaming . Here it felt ok at best . But I know you guys go for the dub for every anime , so it is what it is.

ur mom

y’all really missed out on the best and most emotional performance in hxh. I hope you guys watch this episode in sub during your free time or something.

Nrock23

This dub is pretty good, but you can't match how amazing the Japanese voice actors are for this show. It's just not fair lol

Miralda

that was some bunk voice acting

Conner Simpkins

Feel like people in the comments are overexaggerating.

The pace of this show has just really really put me off, the first half of the arc was about revenge and the hype leading up to that.. and then just to end like that ffs. Maybe its just me but feels pretty cheap, I guess gon yelled a lot so..worth?

Edgar

HxH was never about the hype fights tho. Its there and when it is its great, but a lot of conflicts get resolved in a different way than most shounen anime. The context to whats happenning to Gon is opposite of hype , the shows been telling that since this arc started and framed in very obvious ways . If you think this episode , gons behavior felt cheap, then idk what have you been watching for the past 115 episodes

Anonymous

Feels like the past 4-5 episodes have been the opposite of hype no lie, the whole gon being mad just felt watered down and cheap imo and building something up for that long to end it with " ok we can wait then you come help us fix kite :)" is just so shitty imo but I'm guessing most people cried on this episode or something.

Morgan Le Fay

Maybe the 1999 version will help you feel it more? Since Kite is shown in ep one like the manga? I didn’t need to watch it to feel Gon’s rage and understand the show, but some people need an extra nudge I guess. And have you finished the arc? Because you only mention the last 5 episodes and gauged an opinion on that. It’s all still building up and nowhere near a conclusion as simple as “we’ll wait and you patch up Kite”.

Zaj

I do think Gon's English VA did a really great job in this episode. But I acknowledge that people's comments are not without reason. The stellar performance Megumi Han gave in this episode is most definitely one of the best works of voice acting in its field. It is not that the English version was bad or mediocre. It's just so jarring when put in direct comparison. People can't remove the original version from their head when watching this version, so it seems rough. So while I understand why people are leaving these comments. I also don't feel like they're entirely fair to the situation.

Edgar

I mean that person is right, this whole arc was never about hype . And the whole palace invasion reiterates that. And character dynamics, themes and breaking down character archetypes what this show is good at . Fights happen and when it does its great , but if people want fights and pure action anime from hunter x hunter, they will be disappointed .

Qrowe

What the fuck kind of analogy is that...

saul™

An American one

saul™

You could literally say that about anything

Jules Eris

stop crying about the dub already... get over it.

TurnoverCarbin

Allow me to rephrase: Why did you feel the need to reference school shootings in your analogy?

saul™

Lol if you can’t figure that out that’s your problem

Robert

I think this issue is you are referencing a horrible thing to say how “against” they are on watching the sub. And as you can see no one liked it. Just be careful in your regular life that you don’t say things like this to get ya point across.

Sorin

Yikes, why bother posting if you're just going to be an edgelord?

saul™

@robert Dude, use your brain, you don’t have to explain that to me. I know that, i wrote the comment in fact 😂

Sorin

They're not.. this is one of the few episodes where the dub vs sub makes a real difference unfortunately. For the majority of the show however it doesn't really matter.

Chaos T

Wow...

Mark Bigwood

Japanese VA sucks man. They all sound they same.

Kevin Campos

Wow, such an edgy comment, you must be popular.

saul™

Lol Is this really that edgy?

Bigbeejr55

It clearly didn't make a difference for the crew. They loved it all the same. People are exaggerating

Bigbeejr55

I will never understand why pitou doesn't just rip gon and kilua's heads off at that moment to protect Komugi. Her being scared shitless of something she knows can't touch her just doesn't work for me.

AnEnthusiasticKoala

I honestly think the dub suffers more from translation issues and the directing of the VA. The director should have told the VA that Gon was supposed to be more emotional.

Brandon L Thomas

Easy, Pitou can’t use nen right now and Gon can. Even if she tried to punch him, Gon would be able to take it and she CAN'T stop healing because the king ordered her to.

Anonymous

Because she can't use her nen, she's defenseless atm. Did you watch the episode?

LY

I will never understand how you couldn't understand that lol

LY

Did you notice how they they always praised the animation but not really the voice acting?

Bigbeejr55

you right, got my episodes mixed up. Her not doing what I described after she gets the phone call is what I have a problem with.

Maxxman

Did you watch the discussion where they praised the voice acting?

kevinup

I love how Aaron never forgets Cookie-chan LOL

Yuion

English VA was not bad but I can hear clearly at some points during the episode that its a fake voice. It doesnt really sound right. As if he goes with his mouth into permanent english "R" mode. Set your mouth up to say the letter R in english and keep that mouth and tongue position and speak. Thats how gon sounds sometimes in this episode

Ryoma Nagare

... to simplify what you're saying. You mean growling in anger. Also. She. The voice actor is female.

Carlos

Erica Mendez does a serviceable job here as Gon, but man...they need to see Megumi Han go ham during this scene. The sub is so raw and visceral, Gon feels infinitely more unbalanced and monstrous. So much pain, rage, and anguish in that vocal performance. Same goes for Gon's other big moments coming up. The English VA doesn't come close to the pure emotion in those scenes.

Carlos

So far Roshi's reaction is the closest to how I felt watching it, sadness for this poor kid.

Dooly

The sub is almost always the superior version.
