Don’t worry, the animation only dips for this episode

Ginzo

I wonder if they're doing the filler episode. Also, the fan service is really a result of the time period that this was made. You'll notice it in other anime that released around the same time as well such as Code Geass. Having a bit of fan service was just an easy way to get people to watch your show on a weekly basis.

I always love how cleanly that tail comes off, no blood or anything.

Mr I like spam

Only time I won't watch full length.

Solly

yeah this episode was something

The love I have for this anime makes me ignore any imperfections..... 😍

O_o *stares* I must honestly question if you have actually watched anime in the past 13 years if you think "fanservice" is something that happened in the early 2000s. There are still tons of anime with fanservice coming out (popular ones too). And it's not like fanservice started in that "time period" (apparently 2007 is really long ago). I.e. check out Cutey Honey from 1973.

Man...this one is rough...

I don't understand how "fan service is really a result of the time period" can be distorted into me saying fan service started during that time period. I didn't say that. I"m saying it was more common to see it in 2000s popular anime relative to what you see in today's popular anime. Also, to prevent any further confusion, this is NOT me saying today's popular anime doesn't have fan service. I've been watching anime since the days of Lupin the Third and Gatchaman.

Well we got past what ever this episode is. It's only upwards and through the heavens now!

Because "being a result of the time period" doesn't make any sense if previously to that time period and after it nothing has really changed as compared to that certain time period. If it's all more or less the same then a certain time doesn't stand out. A more honest statement would be that the fanservice is a result of Japan being Japan. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Their discussion about artstyle and key art makes me want them to watch Shirobako, an anime about making anime

Ginzo

Fan service being more present in popular 2000s anime relative to today's popular anime was only half of the point i was making. This also doesn't even touch on the other half of my point about how the fan service was added just to get views on a weekly basis. For example, the majority of the fan service in Code Geass and Gurren Lagann is plot irrelevant. In comparison, in something like Golden Boy, Kill La Kill, and Seven Deadly Sins, the fan service is integral to the plot. I don't believe "Japan being Japan" is relevant because I'm not arguing a broad point about fan service but a very narrow one. It's like I'm comparing two brands of purified water and you're going, "All purified water is basically the same because they contain mostly water." Is there still fan service in today's popular anime? Yes. Is it not plot integral and only there on a weekly basis just to get views? In some yes, but I would argue that it was much more common in popular anime in the 2000s. The changes in how fan service is used and received in anime isn't as pronounced as the differences between something like Impressionism and Romanticism, but I would argue there is in fact a notable change between the time periods. Regardless, I'm done. It's waste of time to argue over semantics and a topic so meaningless.

As someone who is in the animation industry, I loved that one. Obviously they have to format it to be entertaining, but they actually NAIL a bunch of stuff.
