It's more than that. Because he possesses the originals of every noble phantasm he has the means to counter basically anyone he ever fights against with an omni-directional gattling gun that shoots weapons at incredible speeds. Not to mention a certain red drill-sword...

The banquet of kings is by far my favorite scene in all of the Fate franchise. The clash of ideologies is EVERYTHING. What's most interesting about the dialogue is that none of them is 100% correct. Saber is naive and overly idealistic. She babied her subjects and as a result the country crumbled without her. Rider is a bloodthirsty tyrant who prioritized glory over the prosperity of his people. And Gilgamesh...is Gilgamesh. In my opinion, a split between saber and riders mentality with a tiny bit of Gilgamesh’s charisma is correct.

My favorite episode of Fate Zero, When rider talks about how a king should be, gives me chills everytime.

The reason I love Fate Zero so much is because of the dialogue. It's the best thing about it imo And I'm interested to see at which point they will realize how philosophical Fate Zero really is

Definitely a defining moment for all of the characters. I love all three of them, but for exceptionally different reasons. I admire Artoria's ideals and honor as a knight. She is exceptionally different from the other two in that she didn't choose to be king, being king chose her. Iskandar is in many ways her opposite. He fought for glory, always desperately seeking the horizon. He doesn't consider himself perfect, but he has no regrets over how he lived his life. Then there's Gilgamesh... what a character. He is so incredibly arrogant, but I do love that he isn't usually overestimating himself. He possesses the power and the will to back up every single one of his claims. He admires the beauty of the world that he calls his own. He admires the tragedy of Artoria even if it comes across as incredibly condescending. In the end, all three are truly kings.

Just wanted to say that Gilgamesh wasn’t just being an arrogant person when he said “all treasures trace their origin back to my treasury,” he is being completely honest. That is is Noble Phantasm: all of humanity’s treasures. Even when a new treasure gets created, it will retroactively be added to the Gate of Babylon. This means that Gilgamesh’s treasury grows the more humanity innovates and creates.

He actually wasn’t a part of the army. The person who you’re referring to was revealed in Case Files to be one of his generals

The show never fully explains what the Gate of Babylon ever really is outside of just being his treasury, but to keep it simple, since Gilgamesh was the worlds first king and once held all the worlds treasures, everything in the world crafted by human ingenuity (weapons, technology, magic, etc) including the prototype noble phantasms of other servants draws its origins from his treasury. This gives him an infinite armory of ridiculously powerful things to chuck at people through an omni-directional gattling gun. This also means that the Gate of Babylon contains nuclear warheads, submarines, and other modern technologies. Why doesn't he just drop a nuke on everyone you ask? 1) he's an arrogant dickhead 2) we wouldn't really have a show if he did.

I think it's notable that most of the time people come away from this episode thinking Gilgamesh was agreeing with Iskandar, when he barely said a word. Other parts of the franchise reveal stuff about his kingship which should give a decent hint at what his conclusion actually is.

Rider might be my 2nd favorite character in Fate but I never agreed with his point of view on this episode. I prefer Saber's ideology of a king serving its followers, its a very similar way of thinking than Ling from FMAB, which is one of my favorite characters in general. But just the way Rider talks makes you want to follow him, Eric was even gushing listening to him.

They are also approaching kingship from different perspectives. Iskandar was trying to conquer as much land as he could, while Aurturia was trying to protect what was already there.

if you watch fate/grand order: babylonia, you'll see caster gilgamesh, the wise king version of himself. He is very likeable in that series

If you're wondering what Gilgamesh is like as a King you just have to watch Fate/Grand Order Babylonia.
