Originally, the chaos emeralds and Super Sonic were supposed to be in the movie, but they changed it because it would have been too much for the first movie, so they replaced it with Sonic's spikes and this blue energy. But the sequel is already confirmed, so we'll probably get more lore in that.

I remember when this movie came out there were a lot of people making guesses that Sonic and Tails will be a gay couple because “Sonic hasn’t shown any interest in girls before” even though he has had live interests before and also the fact that Tails is like 9 years old
