Lol they didn’t even realize that the ending revealed Leorio’s nen category. Glad they didn’t, it would spoil the actual reveal

Specialists don’t have to all be combat oriented like chrollo and kurapika. Some specialists like neon nostrade can only tell peoples’ fortune along with some others that you’ll eventually meet (like pakunoda). Combat proficiency is up to each individual and how they decide to use their nen. But yeah, I definitely think that specialists have a lot more options to work with, combat wise. Nice reaction! Looking forward to your reaction to hxh episode 49 the most!

GlamdringandOrcrist

They said in earlier episodes that it’s just Chain Jail that has the unbreakable condition. He can use all the other chains when he wants. Emperor Time uses 100% of every category all the time and has nothing to do with the contract, he can use it whenever he wants. He was born a Conjurer. His eyes becoming Scarlet turns him into a Specialist

Anonymous

Actually, Kurapika doesn’t reveal that until a later episode.

Lawliet

Awesome episode, I'm so glad we reached this moment!

Joe Smith

Just wanted to mention that there is a significant cost to using "emperor time", though I don't think its mentioned until later in the manga.

comments like these trigger me xD as if you never miss anything

Sahar

My poor baby uvo ... how many times am I gonna watch him die 😓 ... wished he had more screen time since he’s more likable then half of the spiders but I get it, it shows that nobody’s safe

Anonymous

its never said but when it comes to specialist all nen rules go out the window

Kurapika's Emporer TIme has a huge drawback, but it's not really touched on until after the end of the anime, sadly. But yeah, there's always trade-offs with Nen, that's what makes it so cool.

Obsidian

While this arc is the second best for me, this is my single favourite episode of the show

cassherms

Kurapica hype!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Uvo serves him right!

-Kites98

This manga panel is pretty good for understanding Emperor Time and how it works: https://images.app.goo.gl/utXCGgW8psRR1sRA8 But yeah, Kurapika's Emperor Time (his specialist ability) is VERY strong. There is one major drawback that is mentioned later in the manga but I won't spoil you in case you want to read the manga afterwards.

Jjop017

Don’t worry you guys are still learning Nen and you are doing a solid job so far. Shane and Calvin are right in how Kurapika’s 100% in enhancement is not the same as Unvo’s. Training and abilities also play a big part in battles. Even if someone has the potential to learn techniques at 100% in all categories it doesn’t necessarily mean they will learn everything or can do everything automatically. Remember they have learn or develop the technique. For example not all enhancers can heal, but all of them have the potential to learn it. Like Eric pointed out everything Kurapika did was based on his intelligence and how well he used what he had. As the series goes on it will go into more depth on how nen works.

Missy

The stricter the contract, the more powerful the nen. High risk, high rewards.

Chronicler

My head didn't explode guys, I think the best part of your channel and reactions are your discussions! Keep turning those metaphorical gears!

ODIS

Aaron is missing an important aspect. It's true that his Emperor Time isn't bound to the contract. BUT, he can only use it when he has scarlet eyes. And he ONLY ever got scarlet eyes when thinking about the Spiders. So, he couldn't just activate that ability whenever he wanted, because he would need the red eyes, and those only come when he's in extreme emotional state. So, it's still a limited power.

Jocta96

YES today is my birthday and you guys listened to the whole ending song! Best present ever lol

Jocta96

I always thought kurapikas ability’s were op, but then I saw more of the series and let me tell you, nen gets fucking complicated hahaha

Zane

it's not really something they ever really cover until after the point the anime ends, but the reason Kurapika's ability is called "Emperor *TIME*" is because of a further condition he set on his specialist ability. The reason he went "That probably took longer than it should have" was because he made it that every minute or so spent in Emperor Time shaves off a certain amount of time from his lifespan. In exchange, he gains dominion over every Nen category while in that state. He keeps setting incredibly self-destructive contracts to gain incredibly broken abilities, and he basically only has those five chains/powers and whatever physical brawn he can put behind them. Talk about hyperspecialization...

BubbleTea

So glad we reached this point! Though I was a little disappointed in some lines that changed the impact and meaning of some things :( Especially when Kurapika said "That probably took me longer than it should have." The sub says he "stayed too long in that state." It really changes the meaning and hints at Kurapika's power not being as 'broken' like Calvin pointed out. Anyway, realllyyyyy looking forward to ep 49!!

Pam

Kinda hate the dub version but the analysis is good although feel like they still don't get it.. They'll get there hopefully

Woodsie89

So a question about that... does that mean that he physically ages? If not, then does that mean everyone has a pre detarmined time of death? Cause those seem to be the only two way for it to shave off time from his lifespan. It either physically ages him in the moment, bringing him closer to a natural cause of death (but he can still die through other means) or Everyone has a fated time of death, and this just somehow makes his sooner. I don't like the idea of 'fate' being a thing in the HxH universe though.

Enkyri

Kurapika is only a specialist when his eyes glow. His specific specialist ability allows him use to all Nen categories to 100%. Nobody else has that ability. Kurapika is the Avatar just like Eric said. He goes Avatar State. He's broken. Kurapika can only use Chain Jail on the Phantom Troupe & he had to make a contract in order to use Chain Jail.

Anonymous

I prefer the sub, but the dub version ain't bad at all, it's pretty great in a lot of regards lul

Anthony Lujan

Hey alex u should have rob give them a real explanation sheet about kurapikas ability with the emperor time taking an hour of his life since they more than likely not going to read the manga if they agree they want to know cuz without that explanation kurapika does seem really broken that way they understand how nen works better somewhere after episode 52 or 53 should be a good time for it

SolitaryLark

Exactly raw power isn’t the most important thing in a nen battle how you use abilities and what you know about your opponents is.

A

I mean, if they want to read the manga on their own after reacting to all episodes. Or even do manga chapter reactions (unlikely but still plausible), then that's spoiling it for them.

Subaru130

Even if you can use Nen to do a wide variety of different things, Nen is already one of the most detailed power systems just from what has already been explained to this point. Hell, all of the little things leading up to the showy, diverse powers are themselves very detailed and have been shown to be important to even the higher level battles. It also implements a way for lower level people to greatly raise their own strength in order to match and surpass people that would ordinarily be out of their league (the conditions). Sure, things will get even further fleshed out the show goes along, but I feel like Eric is overlooking the already super complex aspects of the power system that have been shown.

Suki

I actually love the dub's "Go to hell you son of a bitch" from Uvo

Insecure Classroom

Also at the moment of this battle, Kurapika can only use some of his most OP abilities on only 12 people from potentially 7 (like earth) billion people. Which should put everything in to perspective and that is also further enhanced through his covenant to die on the spot if he used it on those rest 6.999 billion people.

Nilexinator

After that discussion i Feen like i was watching the normies. But Eric was right. That power System isnt that Special. You can do what ever you want with a few limitations. It isnt as Smart as People think it is. And you dont have to know what zetzu etc. Do.

Cinya

The Chains are only unbreakable from a practical standpoint because they enforce Zetsu and without Nen virtually nothing could break out. However a strong enough being potentially could like if the Hulk or Superman were dropped into HxH.

Pucki

you didn't get the downside of Emperor Time because of the dub which is funny because it's the first episode where the dub was weird. The first time was Kurapika saying " im not always a Specialist" and the second time when he said "that took me longer that it shouldnt have" he says something like this "It seems I was too long in that state" which implies that Emperor Time isn't good for his health

Hercule Pyro

Calvin picked up on the conditions of emperor time really well. A good example is the healing chain, healing is an enhancer property. You can use your category to 100% of it's full potential, so when Kurapika is in emperor time his healing chain heals him for 100% efficiency, but when he's not in it it would only heal him for 60% efficiency because out of emperor time his natural state is conjurer.

Indexsage

one of the best episodes in HxH plus this is one of the best fights in anime well just one of them there are still lots of others

kevinup

YAAAS!!!

Game Dragon

Just to clarify. A specialist means their "ability" does not fit into any of the other Nen categories. Kurapika's Specialist ability gives him 100% potency of all Nen categories, but there are other Specialists whose abilities have nothing to do with categories at all. It's basically a wild card trait. If you're thinking that's OP, then remember that Kurapika can ONLY use his Emperor Time ability when his eyes are scarlet. Otherwise, he's just a normal Conjurer.

awesomeusername

A good chunk of the questions you have can be answered by the previous episodes already. For example, Kastro's innate type incompatibility was part of his downfall, but another thing was just how incredibly complex his ability was. Hisoka told him as he was dying that the reason Kastro lost was because he didn't have the memory space for said ability. Of the four major Nen principles, Hatsu is still one that hasn't been sufficiently explained, but its essentially just your Nen ability. Hisoka transmutes his aura to have the properties of rubber and gum, Kurapika conjures chains, etc. Kastro made a literal double of himself, and he essentially wasted all his time training on a technique that had glaring weaknesses (making a pristine clone of yourself that gives away the real you). Another thing, when Kurapika confessed to him being a Kurta to Melody, he explains that his eyes are normally brown, and red when excited, hence why he wears eye contacts to cover this. This is also shown with his reaction to the scarlet eyes on the data card, where he tells Basho to shut up but Basho doesn't realise Kurapika's eyes were even red. And in this episode, Kurapika takes off his contacts to show the full glow of his eyes. So during the entire fight he was in the Emperor Time state.

awesomeusername

One thing to note is even though Kurapika is 100% efficient at all categories, that doesn't necessarily make him overpowered. Hisoka is one of the strongest characters seen in the show so far and he's only used transmutation and conjuration Hatsu, but absolutely no enhancement or emission or manipulation. What makes Kurapika so powerful is he's using his potential correctly, as opposed to someone like Kastro. He could've spent the time he learned his enhanced self-healing on an emission type attack (think a simple Ki blast), but that would've been redundant as he already has his chains for ranged attacks. The use of In on his chains, along with the Manipulator/Conjurer bluff, and the choice of Uvogin as his first target is why he won in the end. Uvogin is a perfect example of strength not meaning everything in this story, its why a group as underwhelming as the Shadow Beasts still could've easily won if they took their fight with Uvogin seriously. One of the Troupe even points this out during that particular fight, "if they used a lethal poison, this fight would've been over", and commented on how they like to torture their opponents.

Anthia Grant

Dayum! That was the fastest button hit I've ever seen! LOL and thank you Shane for taking the button away so you guys can finally listen to this fantastic end theme! The way I understood it, and correct me if I'm wrong, Kurapika is naturally a Conjurer. When his eyes are scarlet, he upgrades into the Specialist category and is able to use 100% of all categories of Nen. That's why his teacher wanted him to take the water test again because the scarlet eyes enhances Kurapika's abilities, even his Nen. Since Kurapika had to put a condition and restriction on his chains, they're only useful against the Phantom Troupe members. If he broke his contract, he forfeits his life automatically. Him being a Specialist may seem OP, but I believe it seriously takes a tole on his body, based on how winded and tired he looked after defeating Uvo. So keeping that in mind, Kurapika does have a cap on how much Nen he can use and for how long he can use it for

Momo Lilya

I mean the power system really is just non-sense. Not saying it in a bad way, but the thing is, the power system evolves the rules Tagashi writes. He likes to experiments with his writing. Therefore he really didn't completely plan them out. I personally think the story is what makes the show well done. While the power system is refreshing? For most people. But maybe because of my traditional Chinese family background, I've been exposed to similar power system from stories or myths.

https://imgur.com/a/1mz2cn9 a more in def explanation of emperor time feom the manga that they dont talk about in the anime....so for example if Kurapika was a lv10 conjurer but he hasnt trained in emission yet, he would be a lv 1 emitter. But he can only reach lv4 emitter because of his disposition. So when he uses emperor time, he essentally skips that training time and immediately becomes a lv4 emitter(which is his 100% potential as an emitter) So even with his emperor time his emitter effieciency isnt as good as an lv10 emitter.

Cornberry

I'm so happy they got to get through the ending song LOL
